Burnley, Boro and Hull are worse like. Sunderland have a better squad & manager then all 3 of them and over the season it'll work out for them imho. It looks bleak now but they've been in worse places and survived.

There is no one as experienced as these lot at surviving relegation, even their fans know how to play their part and really do get behind any glimmer of hope late in the season.

They have been in the same situation as they are now and survived, however they 3 of the 'elite' teams in their opening 8 fixtures back then. Only 2 other clubs have had 2 points at this stage and survived, generally it doean't happen.

Not massively convinced they're much better than Middlesbrough mind.

I think Boro might be better, still though to tell, though Boro did win the derby.

It's also worth remembering that the inbreds hate us first and follow their club second with the game against us usually a turning point in their mood changes.

The fact that we're not in their division this year has them needing a miracle to get a boost from somewhere to kickstart their campaign unless our next league loss or defeat in the cup has the same effect in the coming weeks.

Wouldn't be surprised if they start a donation to get a bus parade to celebrate our next loss.

Lower match day revenue than Hull City!

As the article says it really shows just how much of their "amazing support" is paying nowt to get in.

There have been many bad decisions since, but Bob Murray's vanity project to "always have one more seat than Newcastle" has ultimately backfired on them.

If they hadn't allowed the Newcastle obsession to cloud their judgement they could have built a new stadium like Boro, Southampton, Derby or similar size clubs which would have been nearly full for most games and with occasional real sell outs. This would have made a better atmosphere and given them some ability to control pricing and keep it at a premium instead of playing if front of thousands of empty seats and the indignity of foisting thousands of free tickets on less than enthusiastic recipients.

Unfortunately none of the promoted clubs are covering themselves in glory this year. The mackems ambition at the moment should be to finish above the highest promoted club, currently Burnley  on seven points, less than one a game.

I know they don't look like they could win one game at the moment, never mind the two they would need to overtake Burnley, but that gap is still easily surmountable over thirty games. The problem last year for us (getting relegated on a number of points that in most seasons would have seen us stay up) was that both Watford and Bournemouth came up with decent management and had something about them. Both got over forty points and will again this year. Hull, Boro and Burnley are all poor teams who won't get to 38 points. This year 37 will keep you up and possibly even 35.

That means they need 35 points from 30 games - 9 wins, 8 draws, 13 losses. Currently that would appear a tall order, but they've arguably only dropped six or seven points that you would have expected them get (3 vs Boro, 2 vs W Brom, 1 v Palace, 1 v Stoke), and picked up one they weren't expected to get at Soton. I would argue that if they were on 8 points now that would be par for the course.

In saying all that, I don't see (m)any points for them in their next three games, but I won't start to think they might drop until we reach the halfway point and they are more than 6 points from safety (Burnley), whilst still turning in the sort of performances they are at the moment.

West Ham away first, then Arsenal at home.

Lose both and surely its the worst start to a Premier League season by any team ever?

Think they'll lose at Bournemouth. Might get a point from either West Ham or Arsenal before that. Could see them on 2 points after 11 games though. If I were a neutral I'd have them nailed on to go down, but still am worried that the others are creating a significant gap at the moment. Hull at home in game 12 could be interesting as to whether they have enough to beat those around them and keep the gap manageable.

Had a look and if they lose their next two they'll equal the worst ever start to a Premier League season (unsurprisingly that team were relegated).  They'd then need three points from their next two games just to keep them equal with the record, any less and they'll break it.  Next four games are:

West Ham (A)

Arsenal (H)

Bournmouth (a)

Hull (H)

So they may just hang in their for now, but IMO only a matter of time before they're crowned the worst ever.
