We saw during the end of last season that he wasn't afraid to make changes fairly quickly if things weren't working. It was even evident on Friday night; though it didn't change the result he switched around the team at half time and we created far more (albeit still not nearly enough).

Anita performed well in preseason by all accounts and Colback will be replaced by Diame. Not concerned at all.

Rafa got it wrong tactically and I'm sure he's well aware of that. I also bet he feels let down by some of those that he picked and we'll see a change in things over the next couple of weeks.

This is spot on. He might pick players like Colback initially, but they'll be out of the team pretty quickly if they don't bring anything to the team. Look at Taylor.

Any one one who doesn't have faith in Rafa should go and sort their livess out imo he's just brought 8 players in this summer, it's gonna take a few games for the team to gel and for Rafa to find his best XI just like it did when he took over in March, and he went a few games with out a win but once it clicked it fucking clicked , I have absolutely every faith that well go up and well go up in style !!!! ....

Benitez's mantra has always been compact. I doubt that'll change, as much as I think it probably should in this league.

Agree with this.  I can see why he went for a cautious set up.  Tight pitch, awful away record, first game of the season etc.  But despite all of the whining about the ref.  We created about two decent chances all game and we only started pouring it on when it was too late.

I have complete faith in Rafa's long term plan for the club.  But I didn't agree with the team selection before the match, I didn't like how negative we were and I think he got it wrong.  I'm sure he is well aware of the issues, what he'll be changing and who he'll be dropping for Huddersfield.

I expect to see a much improved showing on Saturday and I think we'll all see one.

He got it wrong on friday. The good part is that he wont give a shit about replacing players who don't perform to his expectations, he isn't one of the managers that tries to be friends with everyone, i mean he's friendly, but still The Boss. He's here to do his job. Unlike some managers who play the same shit over and over again expecting a different outcome.

I just couldn't understand why play so negative against a Fulham team who nearly got relegated and have lost their 2 best players. Hopefully on Saturday that team will be rectified.

I can't believe that some people on here think that Rafa turned up an hour before the game and picked the team and tactics.

He will have learnt a lot more about the likes of Dimmett and Colback from a 1-0 defeat than a 1-0 win

True (and Anita) - hopefully anyway but I think your right

How ?

Never to play the Colback again and that Anita and Dummett are just as bad - hope so anyway

Why would it take a defeat to se that. Just their performances should be enough, regardless of the result.

I do wonder about what Rafa's options were. Aarons came on and looked ineffective. Shelvey came on and was blowing out of his arse after 5 minutes.

I don't like Colback but i would have expected him to do better, i'm sure Rafa did too. I also thought Anita would have played better but he didn't, ditto Perez.

I still think we looked a better team than them for 2/3rds of the game. Then it got a bit desperate.

I agree with you it's the performance not the result but the result means it's probably higlighted more

Shelvey looked to play forward passesand players will make more moves knowing someone is going to look for them. Mbemba for bringing the ball out would have been a game changer and we'd be starting 20yds further up.

To fans maybe. Any manager worth his salt see's performances regardless of the result.

Again I agree but I still can't fathom out why he selected that team in the first place - big Rafa fan but he droped a massive fuck up there

and that's my worry, that he's too wedded to the 4-2-3-1 thing. Seems like he's playing the division instead of the match. (Only reason for playing Hanley)
