Guest neesy111
Wasn't it Modric's lass who f***ed the deal up? Or was that some wacky rumour? No. Llambias did. Something about art galleries and museums? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk You are thinking of Remy Garde. Llambias wasn't even at the club when we went for Modric. Mort was still here. Guest firetotheworks
Modric came here because his agent loved Keegan as a player. The comprehensively unqualified Tony Jiminez told Modric that he wasn't PL quality, Keegan pulled him to one side and basically said 'what the fuck are you talking about, he's just played England off the park!?' Ashley took Jiminez's advice and Modric went on to be one of the best players in the world. If you believe Keegan, which obviously all of us do, that's what happened. joeyt
Pablo Aimar's wife kicked off. Didn't Ginola and his wife have a tour of Newcastle just before he joined and she was crying by the end of it? Newcastle > Paris

Super Duper Branko Strupar
Is there anything in those Jonathan Cafu rumours? Mag claim we are still owed cash up to 3m for Townsend. Ad could potentially take him on loan for free & pay the rest at the end of seasons. Doesn't sound bad. Fantastic.

Had a tour of ground and training facilities and was hold up in a hotel waiting to sign. Spurs offered him what he wanted which was around £20k p/w. TRon
Hard to believe we could end up with this deal on a loan. Palace must be fucking mental.
Guest
However, the deal could hinge on what sort of offer Rafa Benitez's side are willing to make. Townsend wants to return to St James' Park on loan rather than commit to a side battling for Premier League promotion. Sounds like loan with permanent possibly in the summer is the only way he would accept coming here.

If he wants away but is only saying loan, then maybe it will force Palaces hand (to a degree). Suppose a loan is the lowest risk all round (except for palace), and as long as he is committed enough on the pitch for us (if he comes back) and helps us gain promotion/the championship, then everyones a winner in the summer, too! Hanshithispantz
If it's true and he doesn't want to "commit to a side battling for Premier League promotion" then he can fuck off like The cheek of it.
Hanshithispantz
I'd obviously take him, but if that is his plan then I hope we don't keep him on and his career fizzles out.

Pixelphish
Hardly a shock that footballers are mercenaries, let's be honest. Exactly. Anyone on their high horse about the fact he left us to go to a Premier League club, Pardew or not, needs to re-evaluate their stance. Instantly makes us more dangerous at this level and promotion comes above all else.
Nobody
I'm a petty cunt, so I'll admit that I would love to sign him on loan and send him back to a relegated Palace after he has secured promotion for us
Hanshithispantz
He just comes across as a bloke consistently making stupid decisions for no clear reason. Leaving us was obviously the worst decision he's ever made at the time, and now he has the chance to rectify it, and get away from that Palace nightmare, and he's umming and ahhing over the minute possibility he might have to spend more than a few months in the championship (if that's true) when he'll end up there anyway. He seems like a total moron
Klaus
If he comes back (loan or not), plays well and scores a few, all will be forgiven from the fans part. I cannot be arsed to be bitter towards him. Having said that, if he really doesn't want to be here, i doubt Rafa would sanction it in the first place. mighty__mag
I'm a petty cunt, so I'll admit that I would love to sign him on loan and send him back to a relegated Palace after he has secured promotion for us Im the same. If it was ok for him beforehand it should only be the same for us. There could be better possible options in the future for better type players. To be fair Rafa had him on fire when he was here. But i dislike shallow type players.
xLiaaamx
Our fans sang "Don't sell Cabaye" after he fucked us off though. Of course Townsend would be accepted.
Dave
“Still nothing yet,” the Spaniard replied when asked if the Magpies were close to signing anyone. “It’s so obvious that we have to balance a little bit the team; I’m expecting something this week, hopefully. “But that’s just my feeling, I’m expecting. You can see that still we can improve the side a little bit.”
