Not even for boy wonder?

I think Toad Bro-ley has screwed that for everyone. 5 is a good number, if you can’t renegotiate in that time period there’s something wrong and inevitably if your player is that good, you’ll recalibrate wages before then with football inflation.

Assumed he'd barely kicked a ball this season but turns out he featured in most games both for Liege and QPR. Hope he keeps his career going.

Given we’re at the limits of FFP, why would we book an accelerated loss in this period? Paper loss v actual loss?

Assume it won’t be full pay off, say he’s on £50k pw, it could be £30k pw paid off over the course of his deal. We get him off the books, and he importantly can be more freely available to talk to clubs, otherwise it would’ve been a whole summer again of us wanting to get as much loan covered as possible, with him ending up somewhere he doesn’t enjoy after an unenjoyable summer.

Just something that’s good for both parties. We get the cost permanently written off and the hassle, he gets to approach all clubs before pre season fully starts to get a fresh start.

He’s also at an age he can secure 3 maybe 4 year contracts.  Next year that’s likely to dip and he may have further injury issues.

If we pay 70% of his wages and release him. He can probably get another club to get him to 90-100% of that value next season with a commitment for another year, 2, 3 already confirmed.

It's all a bit of guesswork but given we didn't feel the need to sell players in January when bids came in, it's probably fair to assume we are confident of passing FFP/PSR in the 23/24 season. With under 2 months left of the financial period, we now likely have a very good view of how much headroom we have. And assuming we have headroom, it probably makes sense to bring forward a couple of million (circa. £2.5m assuming he's on £50k pw) in cost into the 23/24 financial year which in turn provides more headroom for the 24/25 financial year.

Could be the opposite as well. He's got £5m owed to him over 2 years. We could offer £3.5m payoff now, or spread the load even wider, such as the £5m over 10 years which is a nice safety net till his late 30s, whilst he's free to go earn elsewhere.

The latter is what sunderland did with clattermole.

Can we just not sell him for close to nothing rather than pay him off? surely some clubs in the championship wouldn't mind having him.

He wouldn't give up the money he's owed on his contract. Has another few years.

Think we've already paid off his contract according to the books

This is my understanding also, this was the year we had that 90% wages to turnover ratio.

Was going to say its possible that was part of the accounting loss we accrued a couple of seasons ago although he started most games til Xmas 2021 so that would suggest otherwise

I remember Rafa saying he wanted to sign him after watching just a few minutes of footage, good luck to him wherever he goes.

So thatll be Dummett, Hayden, Hendrick, Ritchie and Karius off the books from next season?

Left with Fraser and Lewis who got 1 year left..

Will be nice to replace these with young talented players.

Best of luck to Hayden tho, very decent in his time and scored a few memorable goals

Fraser and Lewis likely to be sold too. I think those two might be the only ones we may get a small fee for

We will struggle to get money for either of those.

I thought Dummy was signing a new 1 year deal as well.

Perhaps if either of Soton or Norwich get promoted, but even then you're looking at nominal fees, maybe a couple of million each.

Exactly we won’t be expecting much, but a nominal fee is better than nothing
