Such a weird transfer.

Felt like a coup getting him after apparently being a solid Serie A left back. Barely plays for us and couldn't get a game in Serie B

Even weirder if he gets a move to a decent club after us

Yeah, watch him become a solid LB in the Serie A now

Whatever moron (Charnley) that deals contracts to these sorts of players shouldn't be in a job.

Can't blame Rafa/whoever for bringing him into the club, but signing a player who's unproven/stop-gap/back-up on more than a 2 year deal is mental. The club must have lost millions in recent years on contracts of players who haven't even been PL registered - Atsu, Saivet, Aarons, Lazaar, Colback....

Emil Kraft on a 4 year deal, when it would surely make more sense to 2 year with option of 3rd on appearances etc. Isn't playing, doesn't seem to have long term future here, he'll be the next we're stuck with and can't/refuse to shift on. I can appreciate players and agents wouldn't really fancy anything short term, but that's not our problem.

reminds me of the time when Winston Bogarde at Chelsea wasnt getting a game and refused a move. Was happy to  pick up his wages..

We have had 4 or 5 players in the same squad in the past couple of years doing the same.. Lazaar, Saivet, Colback, Atsu and Aarons bleeding this club dry

Ashley must be sick paying them a wage weekly what the average person would make in a year or even 2 years

Serie B has strict salary caps and much lower wages. The most a Serie B side can sign a player to is about 150k a year - then about the same again in bonuses. So considering his unglamorous position and being signed by Palermo from another smaller Serie B side when they were in Serie B - it is not unreasonable to imagine (without a new contract) that he was possibly only on about 1 or 2k a week when playing for Palermo in Serie A.

What probably happened is we offered him a 5 year deal on 5 or 10x what he was previously earning. In doing so we gave him enough money to be completely financially secure for the rest of his life. Sometimes it's hard to know what that does to a player's motivation. Add in a year and a half of not playing and it's not hard to imagine he has stagnated completely as a player.

Don't blame the players staying on for whatever loyalty bonus they signed when they made their deal. It's our fault for making the deal with the players.

What doesn't make sense is why we haven't been able to secure deals to get them moved to clubs whist paying percentages of their deals.

Saivet went out on loan as soon as we dropped to the Championship, so there must have been some appetite from clubs who would have taken him in 2017 or 2018 windows - just that we'd have had to pay a percentage of whatever contract was owed to him.

Even Ki was paid up to leave the club

Saivet is a strange one..  He was captain of Bordeaux.. i remember he came on against Everton, i thought he played well.. didnt see much of him after that

in 2017 he started against west ham , scored a nice free kick and again didnt see him again after that

very strange transfer altogether

Started against West Ham, gave away a goal with a ridiculous pass, then scored a nice free kick.  I think Rafa (rightly) paid more attention to the error than the free kick.

Can only imagine he was totally unsuited to top class football. When they are getting paid that amount you would think they would have to at least train seriously as part of their contract.

He played 60 games in Serie A you'd think he'd have something about him

Enrique and Bernard were decent. Domi was ok but strange.......

Domi never really settled. He was a devout muslim. went to my dad's mosque.

unlike Ba, he found it harder to handle the environment and integrate.

went home to be closer to family.

shame as he looked as if could have been a really decent player.
