This is the Chapecoense players celebrating reaching the Copa Sudamericana final just 5 days ago. :( :( :(

In one way it's good that they got to have a moment like that in their careers before they passed away.

RIP.

A little regarding the club: Chapecoense was in Serie D (the League 2 equivalent) in 2009. In 5 years they climbed to the Serie A and then in two years they established themselves as a Serie A team and made the Copa Sudamericana finals (Europa League equivalent) while being 9th in the Serie A in thier third season.

They've ascended through the Brazilian league system in no time and were just two days away from making something so remarkable.

Nice to see it unite a lot of clubs in Brazil in respecting the club after a nightmare come through.

Devastated for all involved. Hope the club can come back and continue building their legacy and go on to achieve many great things still in the name of those that have been lost. It would be nice to see them awarded their first continental trophy in honour of the players and hopefully they receive enough support in rebuilding their club. Unfortunately for the families and friends of the deceased there is damage in their lives that cannot be rebuilt. My thoughts and sympathy is with them.

Other teams in Serie A are offering to loan players to Chapecoense for free so they can continue in the top league.

I think when the Munich disaster happened the FA ruled that Man Utd couldn't be relegated for 3 seasons, Froggy might know the details more. But something along those lines along with the offer of free loan players would be a great thing to do for them.

Not sure they'll really be thinking of any of that right now though.

Fair play to Atletico Nacional.

Always respected them for their domestic achievements and of course they've not been too bad on the contenential scene either winning the Copa libertores last year.

This could have been their first sudamerica trophy and second contential trophy in a row but they're unselfishly giving it up to honour the lost. Much respect.
