Figures 1-0 Football
Bizarre appointment, especially when we've been absolutely shafted by referees all season. Although he's probably been one of the better ones we've had all season tbf.
shintonsghost
Really can't believe it makes any difference where he's from. You're very naive then. He's from Huddersfield. Not sure whether or not he supports them (He's not allowed to referee them) but he'll have many friends and family members who are Huddersfield fans if nowt else and it's a huge game for them as well. It's an unnecessary appointment which puts the referee in an awkward position. seen it all before, lets just fucking beat the shit out of them

Ryan
What an absolutely mental choice of referee, just pick any of the other 20+ other impartial ones ffs
Robster
It's up to us to make sure that the origin of the referee is irrelevant.

HaydnNUFC
There won't be many Preston fans there on Monday, only sold 420 out of a 1,000 allocation so far.
Figures 1-0 Football
There won't be many Preston fans there on Monday, only sold 420 out of a 1,000 allocation so far. Unsurprising really. They've already had a chance to come to SJP this season, they've got nothing to play for, Sky have shafted them and moved it to a Monday night etc.
NUFC
Andrew Madley, Bobby's brother (and also from Huddersfield), is down as the ref for this. Out of all the referees available in the EFL, can they not just give us one that is completely impartial FFS? It was farcical against Brighton and it's probably even more so now given that the stakes are that much higher. He's from Ossett, Wakefield according to Wikipedia. Dave
According to NUFC.com, Madley 'is a self-confessed Huddersfield Town supporter'. What a stupid idea.
Greg
I got really angry about it after a few beers last night and may have sent a complaint to the Football League.

Greg
Dear Sir, During the 2016/2017 season Newcastle United have been on the wrong end of some of the worst refereeing I have witnessed in over 30 years following the game. This accumulated in the frankly awful decision of Keith Stroud in the match against Burton Albion. However, this is just one of many bias decisions made against Newcastle United this season. It cannot simply be incompetence. Newcastle United have had in the region of 15 clear cut penalties not awarded. Are referees told to stand up to the big club? It cannot simply be incompetence as it has gone on all season. I appreciated Andy Madley has refereed Newcastle United games earlier this season and has been no worse than many of the others referees we've had this season. However, the situation is now critical with only a small number of games left. It is beyond comprehension that a self proclaimed Huddersfield Town supporter, who has family and friends in the town of Huddersfield, and isn't allow to referee Huddersfield Town games, has been appointed to take charge of the Newcastle United vs Preston North End match on Monday 24 April. If you cannot see, given the current league standings, that this is a clear conflict of interest and simply not appropriate then there is something seriously wrong with your organisation. You simply must revisit this decision, remove Andy Madley from this fixture and appoint another competent official. I look forward to hearing your announcement to this effect and your explanation for this utterly undefendable appointment. Kind regards,

Robster
This should be used as motivation for the players. Don't give the guy the chance to screw us over.
Danh1
A similar fuss was made about Bobby Madley refereeing our game down at Brighton and they got the softest pen I have seen all season, shock. In fairness though he could have easily booked Ritchie at one point IIRC which would have ruled him out against Huddersfield and Reading. The amount of penalties Brighton have had is a joke. Greg
Well at least they responded... Hello Greg, Thank you for your email. Further to your suggestion that referees may favour certain teams, it is important to clarify that there is criteria in place to ensure referees do not referee games should any interest in participating teams be declared. For example, all referees declare any interest in any EFL teams (such as ever holding a season ticket for example or family connections) and as a result are excluded from refereeing those clubs. Match officials should also be excluded from officiating in fixtures if they currently reside in the same town or city of a participating club's home stadium or if they played for any of the participating clubs at youth, under-21 (reserve) or senior level. Based on this criteria Andy Madley is not excluded from officiating in the match you refer to. Similarly, a referee from Newcastle was recently appointed to a Huddersfield Town match. Ultimately, referees in the modern game are scrutinised more closely than ever before, whether by their coach, match assessors or Referees’ manager, to ensure integrity is maintained at all times. Thank you for contacting the EFL. Regards, Andrew Pomfret
