My uninformed guess is Jacob wanted to play and the medical team indicated it *might* be ok. Bad decision in hindsight but that shite is always 20/20. I had mine surgically repaired and, while have lost some motion, haven't had another dislocation. Still it's very hard physically and mentally to overcome. One of our only players who tries the early ball/cross from wide and all. Throwback to a more traditional winger. Leaves us really light in the wide areas, too. Without knowing the details, I'd guess this is it. Probably the same recovery time for him whether they risked it dislocating again or played conservatively, so logically they spun the wheel. Even with surgery, I had arthroscopic surgery so have a big hole in my shoulder which is still a risk for many things. Dislocations are nasty. I'd rather a break than a dislocation.
