No extension. He'll be 32ish when his current deal is done.

Ticks homegrown box, versitile, good cover, starting in cup competitions, etc. Was here when it was shit, so knows the good/bad times at the club. Cheaper than spending money on bringing in someone who might upset the atmosphere. and unlike some of the other 30 something’s in our team he actually has bags of pace and strength. My main point was I don't see the reason why we would extend that duration to 5. He'll be 34 when the new contract is up. Why would the club want to carry those improved wages for another season when we (hopefully) are in a position where he will be nowehere near even being on the bench? By that time you'd hope we can also start harvesting the fruits of an improve youth setup as well so we aren't in danger of not meeting any kind of quotas for competitions. OCK
I guess it dilutes the cost of the wages across 5 years rather than 4, which might seem small but number crunchers will have probably thought it worthwhile.
Jordan
Would rather we sort out new deals for Schar and Lascelles first before extending someone with 4 years left.

magvicar
Didn't Murphy dislocate his shoulder a few years ago and came back and done it again very quickly? I'm glad he's had surgery this time because it's obviously a weak issue.
Armchair Pundit
We wouldn't sell Murph would we? https://www.footballfancast.com/newcastle-news-may-lose-ultimate-professional-in-january-transfer-injury-crisis/
HawK
He's worth £30m to us.
Lish007
I hope not. He's actually now one of my fave players, he's a toon player, he's versatile and he's actually been banging this year!
Joelinton7
Absolutely zero chance whatsoever. He’s at his boyhood club, living his dreams, happy being a bit player player/meme legend. He’s not jumping ship to tinpoint clubs like that. With our injury crisis as well there’s not a chance we’d even pick up the phone.
gbandit
Howe loves him, don’t think there’s any chance of that
Erikse
We would be left with just 1 senior right winger in the squad, unless we get someone else. I don't see it happening in january.

wiseman Posted Friday at 22:49 Share Posted Friday at 22:49 Can only see us selling him if we’ve got a big upgrade coming in for RW, otherwise I think Murphy will try to stay with us until he retires.
