Jacob "The Juice" Murphy

Recommended Posts

Had some dodgy moments where he held onto the ball a bit too long, but otherwise, blown away by how well he continues to play.

Seems to have really got a good sense of what his strengths and weaknesses are and so doesn't try to do too much for the most part.

Gets into really good positions and looks to deliver the ball into dangerous areas early and often.

Been a massive part of the turn around.

Part of me is feeling like if we brought a new RW now to replace Murphy, it'd just be a Tino Asprilla upsetting the squad balance situation all over again.

People overlook the squad harmony aspect of buying/selling players far to much

Its a very relevant point

Oddly thought he was our best attacker today albeit Ait Nouri can’t defend and they were overloading on the other side which allowed him space.

Thought oddly he put great balls into the right areas tonight and yet we had no one in the right areas to finish. Which means he should have got his head up and played to the right positions but also means the players expecting to receive the balls should have also ran to the right areas. I'd generally side with the former on that latter point.

There's something quite refreshingly simplistic about his game. I guess because nearly every side plays with inverted wingers these days you don't really see just that ball out of feet create half a yard for a cross or shot across goal much anymore.

Aye, an old school-ish centre forward (a certain C. Wilson comes to mind, but let's not go there) would have filled their boots on the back of those deliveries tonight

He’s fucking class. I used to hate seeing him play, thought he was absolutely fucking useless after some terrible performances, but good god, he’s a fucking player and a great personality

It's great to see him play these days. Still remember when he first joined, he looked so nervous/insecure. He's always had the talent and physicality to make it, which I assume is what convinced Rafa to commit such a big percentage of the transfer budget on him at the time. Like with Longstaff, Bruce completely ruined him. Howe should take a lot of credit for building these guys back up again.

No intended hate towards Almiron but the more Murphy plays the worse Almiron looks in hindsight. It feels like Murphy offers more offensively in 1 game than Almiron does/did in 20.

Overall, It’s likely Howe has just told him to keep it simple and try to find Isak whenever possible. It was him who passed it to Isak for the first goal tonight but probably won’t get the assist.

It's good to have a player who is (somewhat) comfortably two-footed on the wing. Right now we have Gordon cutting in on the left flank; and then Murphy playing a proper outside right, but as seen yesterday, still has the ability to cut in and get a shot off with his left foot if circumstances permit. This sort of unpredictability makes it so hard to defend against, unlike an Almiron, who you know will always cut in. Even Mbuemo will cut in if given the chance, although he's objectively a much sharper player than Miggy.

Fair play to the coaching staff for teaching Murph to add more dimensionality to his attacking play. He seems so much more confident nowadays. Really struggling to see who we could reasonably buy who'd be an obvious improvement.

He is a beast.

His pace and directness is refreshing.

The minute he gets it he's beating his man and putting it in dangerous positions.

Keep it up Murphy lad.

People forget Murphy is a two way player tactically now as well - plays the RWB role quite well now too in away games

Guys always had the raw talent but is the kind of player that works well under a 1 v 1 coach which Eddie is

First time in a while I wasn't annoyed when the ball went wide right. He offered us some real balance and width, and he was playing in some pearler crosses from the right even if they didn't always find their man. He was a menace.
