Other clubs' transfers

Aurier is a worse player AND comes with a huge deal more baggage.

Think it's a case of not as good rather than worse if that makes sense? Seen a fair bit of him for Ivory Coast - looks good but nothing amazing. And i've heard about some of his views and antics.

Ah knew nothing of his private life. Only seen him for PSG and whenever I've seen him he's done everything Walker does equally as well. Terrible [emoji38]

Paris St-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaifi is "confident" the club has not broken Financial Fair Play regulations after the £200m world-record signing of Neymar, 25, and the potential £165m transfer of striker Kylian Mbappe, 18. (Daily Telegraph)

The problem for the Aurier deal is more about Trippier.  Too good to be benched, and Aurier isn't that much an upgrade over Trippier.  However if Spurs choose to start Trippier, then why spend that much on a back up RB?  They should buy someone to replace Sissoko.

I'm sure PSG generate 400m a year in croissant, liquid natural gas and cigarette sales at the PdP. I'd be confident as well.

Well there's the argument that in selling Walker and getting in Aurier we've made money without getting all that much worse at RB, but let's leave that aside for now.

Why spend that much on a back-up RB? Because full-backs are crucial to the way we play and because we are in four serious competitions. And because the money is there. Our reserve LB played more than half last season after Rose got injured and may end up playing more than half this season as well. At this level, if you don't have strong competition in every position then you are simply not going to be good enough.

Same reason City just spent the GDP of a small island on fullbacks.

City also literally needed fullbacks, because they had none. Highly questionable money spent aside.

They'd only spent £7m on full-backs since 2011 when they bought Clichy up until their splurge this summer tbf, so £130m or whatever for an elite club on full-backs in 6 years isn't 'that' bad.

I'm tempted to go work out what our net spend on full-backs is over the same period .
