joeyt Posted January 9, 2018 Share Posted January 9, 2018 The Mayor of Liverpool has refered the Ross BArkley transfer to the policet investigate for fraud: The mayor of Liverpool has asked police to investigate whether any "fraud" has taken place surrounding Ross Barkley's transfer from Everton to Chelsea. Joe Anderson has written to the heads of the Football Association (FA) and Premier League following the 24-year-old England midfielder's £15m move. The "circumstance" of the deal "warrants serious investigation", said lifelong Everton fan Mr Anderson. Merseyside Police said Mr Anderson's letter "is currently being considered". In the letter, on his official headed notepaper, Mr Anderson expressed concern about the size of the transfer fee paid by Chelsea for Barkley. The Premier League champions had reportedly agreed to pay £35m in the summer, only for Barkley to pull out of the move to Stamford Bridge at the last minute. Noting that Barkley did not play "a single minute for Everton" in the time between these two negotiations, he said the player has seen "a decrease in value of more than one million pounds a week". He claimed: "At best, this represents a very poor deal for Everton Football Club. "At worst, it could be seen as a deliberate attempt to drive down a player's value in the transfer market so as to benefit the player, his agent and the buying club," Mr Anderson said. There are far too many players sitting at clubs not playing, but who are priced out of moves or a potential buyer just cannot afford the fee. Guest Howaythetoon Posted January 10, 2018 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Obviously some players are way better than others so the cap can be adjusted for age, international caps and perhaps goals scored and other things. I'd also introduce something whereby if a player doesn't play more than 10 games in a season unless injured, said player and indeed club can sever their obligations to one another with the player becoming a free agent and the club not having to pay up their contract. Colback is effectively stealing a wage, but hes' contracted to the club and its upto the club really to utilise him or ship him out. I'd like to see all clubs having to give x number of academy players game time during the course of a season too. I'd put a cap on the number of foreign players a club can have on their books as well. We would probably see even less loyalty in the game from players, but conversely someone like Shola wouldn't be at a club for a decade doing pretty much nothing and it may prevent clubs hoarding players or players just sitting on their contracts content picking up a wage. That first part seems a mistake - smaller clubs would get less of a transfer fee than clubs who can afford to pay high wages. It would exacerbate the current issues.
