Part of me hopes he goes, if only to protect Shearer's scoring record a bit longer.

But then I also kinda hope he stays and then leaves Spurs for nowt next summer.

True, but do you reckon Madrid take Kane and Mbappe next year? I dunno.

I dunno man they seem happy to start Joselu upfront this season. I don’t know what Flo is thinking. He should be all over Kane now.

Lewandowski is 35 this month. Barcelona is also an option next season. As is City again tbh.

Depends how you define "elite".

Ederson, Stones, Dias, Rodri, KdB, Silva and Haaland are some of the best in the world at what they do.

Ederson- I think he’s the right profile for Pep and is elite in that style because there’s few options.  I don’t think he’s a great shot stopper at all.

Stones - until he started dropping into midfield was anyone calling him truly elite? Was he elite at the World Cup or ever for England? Similar thing with Dias and the whole defence. They’re good enough to succeed in the brilliant system and that system ensures there not a lot of defending to be done.

Rodri - doesn’t/didn’t  even play CM ahead of a 36 year old Busquets.  The system means he doesn’t anchor or dictate by himself. Unlike a prime Fabinho. Again the height and passing ability mean he’s a perfect fit. This one maybe elite but I’m not convinced.

Silva, KDB & Haaland I would agree.

My point is I don’t think City is a super team of 25 world class players that would be bonafide stars for other elite teams. Rather they have a brilliant profile of quality players for the best manager of all time.  It’s not about harnassing individual brilliance. It’s about making the system work.

Joselu won’t start. Carlo has tried some new tactics this summer. Think their sight is on signing Mbappe and playing Vini and Mbappe up top and Rodrygo behind them in a #10 role and then three central midfielders behind.

Is Rodrygo injured?I’ve kept half an eye on them pre season. Seems to be starting Vini and Joselu up top. Bellingham at 10.

Started both games where they were fielding a strong side. Yeah Bellingham at the 10, but see it as temporary until Mbappe is eventually signed and then three of Jude, Cama, Tchouameni, Kroos, Modric and Valverde starting in the midfield three.

Part of me thinks Kane is the dog that caught the van here.

I don’t think he wants Bayern, I think he wants out of Spurs but still in the league, that way he gets both the goal record and trophies.

Always assumed German clubs were a bit more savvy finance wise than this. Imagine spending £85m on a 30 year old striker you could get for nothing next season. Levy will be laughing all the way to the bank, that will give him a huge cash pot to spend on appreciating assets.

Yes I know Kane is a class player, but I'm just not a fan of throwing that much money at a player who will decline in the next year or two.

This is why Man U beggar belief at times. Goalscoring was their number one problem last season. They spend crazy money on older players anyway (Casemiro) so why not guarantee goals (and probably a title challenge) by getting Kane over Hojlund.

Can't understand that decision - it's only 20M extra - probably tons of wages on top to be fair - but you just got rid of De Gea, Elanga, Maguire, McTominay probably. Don't even need to replace any of those - frees up plenty of wages.

Can guarantee Ferguson would have demanded him, he bought RVP at age 30 too.

Maybe Spurs were asking for more from a league rival?

Kane is also a way better player than Owen and other pure finishers/poachers. Kane drops deep, has amazing passing too - could even be a CAM if goals slow down as he's very creative with the ball too.

It's a good thing as I think Hojlund will have a Darwin Nunez-esque season, some promise and some stinkers too.

The Spurs lads reckon Levy will not sell Kane to Man U. Dunno if Kane could force it by rejecting both Bayern and a new contract. That would of course be a massive, burn his bridges with Spurs move.

The potential ace up the sleeve here is that Spurs could offer him a huge-money, multiyear deal on the assumption, or possibly even pre-agreement, that he buggers off to Saudi when its no longer value for money for them. If "we can just dump him on Saudi" is an option, a megacontract would not have the normal potential millstone type risk.

I'm a bit puzzled what City are looking for with Paqueta? Is this another filler type signing, like Phillips, or do they see real potential to start him or perhaps replace Bernardo/Mahrez.

Paqueta is twice the player Philips is tbh. I think they’re looking for him to fill in for De Bruyne when injured/rested more than anything.

I wasn't comparing the two, both totally different, Phillips was high profile at the time, but city on occasions do make squad filler signings, even at expense.

I'm not sure he could do the job of a KDB who literally dictates the game for City, I think if Bernardo leaves then it could make sense he plays a part.

Who knows? City have someone the best scouts around. They've obviously identified him for a role if reports are true.

I'm more worried they'd use him to attract Bruno their next [emoji38]

No one’s ever going to do what De Bruyne does for them, but I think he could offer something different when Kevin is injured or resting. He’s a talented player and hopefully Pep can get the best out of him. At times he has been fantastic for the national side, just very inconsistent which is something he can afford to be for City given their depth.
