10 years today since this beautiful man was appointed and without him, there’d have been no takeover!

Happy Rafaversiary!

Considering so much has happened in those 10 years, it seems notable that we've only had three permanent managers in that time.

Real Betis tomorrow night in the Europa. Expect they're probably serious underdogs but would love to see them progress. The comms on one of the recent highlights packages seemed to reckon he was under pressure at Panathinaikos but they're in good form atm.

Players aren't happy with his lack of tactics and preparation apparently. Seems an odd complaint against Rafa, like. Doesn't seem the type to just phone it in either.

Saw a tiktok where a football fan attended the europa league final (probably at Chelsea) and ended up sitting next to Rafa Benitez and was gushing saying how it was the best conversation ever and how knowledgeable Rafa was and how he told him things that he made him promise he couldn’t repeat. Such as he was close to getting the Juve job. But he’s doing it now because Rafas since told a lot of those stories on various podcasts

Theres two type of people in the football world. People who think Rafa is/was an excellent manager and people who are imbeciles.

It’s no coincidence that he did well at clubs where he was given love and support, and was hounded at other clubs without being a fair crack at it.

Won 1-0 despite playing 30 mins with ten men.

Someone picked him as their specialist subject on Mastermind tonight.

I got 8. I know too much about the guy.

How has it been 10 years since he came to us??? I'm old as owt

10 years since Eddie beat us and got McClaren sacked so Rafa could come in, get some soul back and ultimately hire Eddie, win a cup and get in the CL.

edit:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35675885 - Eddie interview here, strange to see

His saving grace is that he comes across as a nice guy, but he was every bit as useless as Pardew or Bruce

at one point McClaren was as good as Moyes as a manager but his negative experiences caused him to slide, whereas Moyes learned and improved.

Watching that video, the one thing that comes flooding back is how absolutely fucking garbage Steven Taylor was and the fact he played over 200 times for us is probably a big part of the reason why we were so crap for a lot of those years.

Considering actual on the pitch stuff and nothing else, the worst manager in our modern history (I don’t really count Carver).

McClaren was much more honest than them and not as full of himself. If you watch the interview linked above he pretty much says that the performance was useless and that we're going down if we play like that. Pardew or Bruce would never say that. Also I think the football McClaren tried to implement was less negative. But the results were of course abysmal.

I've said on here before, but he had the weakest handshake I've ever engaged. Hank Hill would despise him.
