Kind of makes me if he was carrying any injury last season because he’s been fantastic when called upon. Couple of instances where his communication is lacking but in every other regard he looks a step above last season.

I was really worried when he first came in, and I'm still apprehensive if he faces any sustained pressure, but so far been really pleased with him.

Makes passes Pope just isn't capable of and I think helps highlight how GK is a position we need to prioritise in the market.

Is he actually good again or have we just played a load of shite?

Good with his feet but barely tested in 4 games now. Massively helped by the new "Tonali system" and us not conceding 20 shots a game like we did in his last run in the team. Mind you, him keeping possession for us is also a big help.

Also added confidence in that other facets of his game can play a part even if he's less of a shotstopper (which is called on a bit less now) than Pope.

Since he came in we've really tightened up the shots on target we've allowed:

Leicester: 1 shot on target

Brentford cup: 3 shots on target (1 goal)

Ipswich: 2 shots on target

Villa: 1 shot on target

Man U: 1 shot on target

We've only conceded 8 shots on target in 5 games. Take out the Wissa tap in for Brentford and that's 7 shots on target, of which I can only remember a good one on one save vs Brentford when he came rushing out being anything above what you'd call "routine" or certainly where if he lets it in we're calling it an error. Arguably the Smozdics one vs Ipswich is better than routine, actually, on reflection.

His handling, work with his feet and general demeanour has been much better than some of the clown shoes showings from last season but let's not get too carried away with him just yet. The defence have been superb and have thankfully given him not too much work to do beyond the ordinary.
