It feels like people are forgetting how poor he was last season.

Much like Trippier, club legend and one of our best ever CBs, but age catches up with the best of them.

Hope he comes back as Sporting Director one day.

Sorry what? Outstanding in the league cup final as well as multiple other big games - he wasn't poor at all.

Arguably best pound for pound signing since Rob Lee or certainly up there in top few.

Yeah, I think you could push that beyond the club and across the whole PL to be honest. Far and away my favourite player of the modern NUFC era

He was indeed excellent in the cup run, but he also had a large number of poor league games.

He was making uncharacteristic errors, he was getting beaten in the air more than usual and his trade mark long range passing was well off.

He turns 35 this year, it's completely normal that he's past his peak.

He's well past that and thats fine as he's been absolutely amazing for us.

But good lord, watching him attempt to run is painful

I don't believe Schar was poor at all last season tbh, I think that's nonsense. He was decent in his limited appearances this season too, with the team performing much more functionally defensively. He is our most proactive CB a distance, the only one who can adequately back up a man to man press. The other three (particularly Botman and Thiaw) are reactive and it makes the team worse.

Agree with this fully.

He wasn't at his best at times last season and made mistakes. But he wasn't poor at all. Often imperious at his best and in the big moments. And as you've said, he's the best we have at our style o of defence which holds the team together. That front foot defending, he's the best at it. Brings a level of composure and mental strength that has disappeared without him.

It's like how people say Bruno was poor last season - he wasn't. He was great just not at his very best. Poor is what we are without Bruno.

Fully agree with this bit, even if we do have differing opinions on last season's form.

Best centre back I've seen for us

(too young to remember Woodgate clearly)

Woody was here for such a short time so not really a fair comparison IMO, I think Philippe Albert is a better comparison. Both club legends.

Would bump me up the list of the most handsome men in the North East if he was to leave.

You'd still be bottom

Probably is the right time to let him go. Absolutely love him though.

Seen him in town walking down Northumberland Street with a fucking gorgeous lass about 4 years ago. He was absolutely lush too. My lass will be gutted the day he leaves.

I'd prefer if you left what we get up to in the bedroom of this forum.

off the top of me heed, will be remembered for

PSG goal

The Screamers

The assist for Joelinton vs Spurs at home and the assist at West Ham

The press vs Arsenal at home for Gordon's goal

and for just looking lush... that smile.

He'd definetly go in my all time NUFC XI like. Has longevity over Woodgate and consistentcy over Colo. Plus you know, he's a trophy winner and all that.
