Fabian Schär - signs a one year contract extension on reduced terms (Official)

I don't think he will make the last two games which is a real shame for Fabian. He is back running again and looking fit and healthy but there is a big difference between that and actually playing. I don't think it's necessarily about the farewell. He has a lot still to offer on the pitch. We will have discussions with him and his representatives in the next week.

Sounds like he will stay tbh.

I don’t think it’s good news, sorry. Just like Trippier this season.

Yeah it’s a no-brainer for me giving him another year with the expected upheaval we’re about to encounter - fingers crossed

One of our greatest ever performers at centre half and brought him in for a pittance. Hard to argue against him being one of the club’s best ever transfers. Struggle to think of anyone better when bearing in mind longevity, transfer value, effectiveness at the back and going forward and general commitment to the club

I reckon he's got another year in him but we'll ideally add a younger CB to the mix who can learn off him while he's still here.

I think it would be wise to extend him as backup to Thiaw and emergency LCB if Botman and Burn are both unavailable. I also think we should be looking at a competition for Botman at LCB who is young with pace.

If hes off we should be looking to get Senesi from Bournemouth on a free. Be some competition for him like I suspect.

Schar looks after himself a lot better than Trippier by all accounts. He’s also a year younger.

Schar has another season or two in his legs.

Always found it odd he was never in "the leadership group" that Eddie created with Lascelles, Tripps, Wilson, Burn and Bruno

Maybe he didn't want to be in it

Far too many other holes to fill before we start looking at central defence, hope he stays for another year.

I assume he's staying if his exit hasn't been announced yet?

More than happy to keep him around the squad. He's a standard setter and a leader in group that's losing a lot of good lads this summer.

I do think he's on the decline now and wouldn't want him starting too many games, but no harm in taking up a Lascelles type role.

I can see it - he is a year younger than Tripps.  Easily has another year at this level.

Based on the amount of blood spit about Tripps all season, we should’ve moved on from him last summer.
