Rod
https://mrkt-insights.simplecast.com/episodes/introduction-to-mrkt-insights Some interesting comments on Joelinton from just after 33mins onwards here. These guys do data and scouting analysis for Swansea City amongst others. I reckon Joelinton might be worth persevering with under a different manager and used in a different system with hopefully a few better players around him. I've said a few times, he's not ready to be a number one striker for a shit side, but would be quite happy to see him coming off the bench with no pressure. He's understudy material, not the finished article. Never in a million years will this bloke be a number 9 or centre forward. Use whatever data you want! If you listen to what I posted you would find that they agree - he's never been played as a number 9 or a centre forward and in such a restrictive system before. I reckon Joelinton might be worth persevering with under a different manager and used in a different system with hopefully a few better players around him. Joelinton has been desperately unlucky. He had a breakout season under one of the most tactically astute managers in Europe. It was a solid season that he needed to build on, and instead he’s had his momentum sapped. I don’t think he’s always put himself in a position to succeed, but it reflects far worse on those who scouted and signed him. He’s nothing like Rondon. Rondon could hold up the ball until help arrived, that’s not Joelinton. Rondon also couldn’t run in behind, which Joelinton can, but you’d never know it because we don’t play that way. Maybe he leaves and has a great career, ala Tomasson. Maybe he stays and finds his feet, or maybe he bombs out entirely. The point is he’s symptomatic of shit recruitment and a lack of genuine structure and guidance for new signings, post-Rafa.
KaKa
Shocking to know that the extent of our scouting of him was basically "He's a a big lad, he'll do."

jackyboy
He'll have no problem with social distancing the way he plays
Dr Jinx
He’ll be playing for a move either way the takeover goes
Guest
He’ll go for about £20m to someone like Borussia Monchengladbach. Part-ex for Plea when we’re loaded maybe.

mrmojorisin75
One of those players that might improve without Bruce. bit of a pardew factor though, if it goes on much longer with bruce he'll probably be irretrievable
Ketsbaia
2020 has been a weird year but Joelinton has just won it.
Guest
That miss. Great work for the goal though.
TRon
Good to see him bursting a lung to get onto the end of it for the goal. Could easily have hid after that miss.
Decky
Delighted for him, but he really is woeful and we should move him on asap after the season.
AyeDubbleYoo
I don’t think he’s that bad TBH, just confidence is shot to bits and shouldn’t be our only option and shouldn’t be a target man. As part of a better squad, I would be OK with keeping him.
Klaus
Probably his best game for us, bar the miss. Get enough support around him, and he can still have a future here.
Dokko
Delighted for him, but he really is woeful and we should move him on asap after the season. I'd keep him. Not worth selling for what we'd get back so with a more attacking team, with better players around him and not 1st choice we might see him open up a bit. We'd be lucky to see double figures if we sold him now. More likely loaned out with us covering a fair wedge of wages and if he doesn't do the biz then he's fucked and we're stuck with him. duo
Needs to work on his composure - he gets in the positions if he can sort his composure out he might become a player.
Decky
Fair enough, financially it's not a good time to sell him. But if we're building a team to be genuinely competitive in the top half of the league he needs to improve immensely even if he's going to be a squad player. Guest neesy111
He was never a goalscorer before he joined, so no idea why we thought he was. He needs to play deeper.
Newcastle Fan
Showed good mental strength to get that awful first half out of his head, second half was his best for us this season.

He shouldn't be starting, he should be the understudy to a genuine PL class striker. Said this before as well, think he would do a lot better with less pressure of being the number 9.
