Would it be reasonable to suggest that the Saudi’s owning us would accelerate their “modernisation” and progression as a forward thinking society? They’re going to be fully under the spotlight here...probably more than they realise.

I think that’s very reasonable. We can only help in this process.

sometimes you need to actually take money from "bad people" to help the greater good of a community and hopefully by holding them to task to do and be better, they may actually change. it doesn't always work this way, but many people have had to adopt this mentality in order to effectuate progress.

hopefully, the incredible lens this puts the KSA via PIF's investment into NUFC and the region will aide in their progression and modernization.

Newcastle fans and Saudi trolls fighting side by side against fiancee of a murder victim and human rights. What a time to be alive.

(summary of todays Twitter)

Christ on a bike. WTF is going on, it's genuinely sad.

Beyond voting for a government that could condemn the nation and not work with them on trade and other issues, there's not much to do with the Saudis having their fingers in almost every pie these days. As Kanji says, the heightened scrutiny they might be under if they own a successful football club might be a positive with regards to pushing their culture into this century. The nation being more isolated rather than a part of a more global society would be much more negative for its people.

On a personal note, I have no issue with working with Saudis.

I don’t think it’s an impossibility that Saudi’s owning us could help them move forward but the amount of organisations whom are objecting suggests that might not be likely

They're objecting at the Saudis getting a chance to "clean" their international reputation using sports, which in itself is fair enough. However, if they don't join the rest of the world there's no reason for them to do anything better either. There's no guarantee they'll improve conditions within their country and culture, but the chances are surely better now they want to make their economy not dependent on oil, and therefore them being dependent on being a part of the rest of the world and be on good terms.

ManDoon[/member] it's just another side of the argument bro. a saudi journalist may indeed have his own leaning agenda but surely there are always 2 sides to every story? nobody seems clean in any of this tbh. read so many contradictory stuff about this every day.

exhausting following this and a time when you just want to have some joy. sad and sick world we live in.

When have amnesty supported terrorists? Also legal prostitution is a perfectly valid and healthy position to take. That isn’t something that makes them a bad org. It’s not another side of the argument for me, it’s dumb and him lashing out. Also lol at Saudis talking about terrorism, considering 9/11, Wahhabism and all the other shit they love. Sorry nah not having that

literally just trying to say that everyone seems to have an agenda on every single side of this man. nothing else.

Whilst the 9/11 hijackers were mostly Saudi nationals , they were employed by Al Quaeda not the Saudi government

 they were the foremost exporters or Wahhabism, the most extreme form of Islam and the doctrine of most terrorists. They created the monster. I don’t really see how that’s up for debate.  OBL was Saudi.

OBL was against the Saudis he wanted to overthrow them .
