Love to know who this is:

Never agreed with anything more in my life. Wouldn't be surprised if it's Milner since he's never used an agent.

“But the thing with this current situation is, it shouldn’t be left up to the lads to make individual donations. The non-playing staff wage bill isn’t that big. The club should fork out for that or the fucking owners should; they’re richer than any of us.”

That’s pretty much exactly what I’ve been saying and you disagreed with it?

The last point is that the FA and Premier League should mandate pay cuts. You disagreed because you don't want anything taking off the poor souls.

I would have thought the left wing position is that nobody should have that much money, money that they cannot possibly spend. Must change my definition of socialism to "hoard as much money as possible as long as you can claim to have earned it"

letf wing = socialism?

Umm... yes?

Good. £125m down the football pyramid as well it seems. I'm more bothered about that in this context than money to the NHS, that's for the state to worry about.

Am I picking up the wording up or is it just an advance not a donation?

I just wouldn't pay the greedy fuckers. Let them take me to court. I think extenuating circumstances might play a role. Could even set a necessary precedent.

If I was a billionaire. And I would put their salaries into a high interest account, just in case.

If you were a billionaire you wouldn't pay your employees? And it's the employees that are the greedy fuckers in this scenario?

I'm an advocate of a system that would prevent me from becoming a billionaire, don't worry.

As I mentioned, Nyland (Villa keeper) was interviewed in the Norwegian news and he was amazed at why they've not been asked to take wage cuts, and that other players he has spoken to had said the same, and that they were pushing the clubs for it but the clubs were holding back for some reason.

Deflection from owners, investors, and directors who know they have the government on side.

Both know most English voters despise overpaid players as they’re often from demographics that should be living in poverty for life unlike owners the owners, investors, and directors.

The culture war never rests.

(And yes, I think players should take a paycut)

The players didn't need to take a cut, yes they get paid too much, but the whole situation was created by wankers like levy and Ashley put none playing staff on furlough when the clubs could easily have paid them.

Just another example of how detached football is from reality and how they think no one will question their actions.

Seems that Liverpool are the latest club to furlough staff. They say the staff will continue to receive 100% of their salary but don't specify if the club are paying it or if the club are getting support from the government. Either way, LFC seem to be getting some bad PR from it.

I think the whole angle of the pay cut has been wrong, it's not really about the NHS imo as that should be done from public funds.  It's the fact clubs are going to go out of business without a big reduction in costs since their income has dried up completely.  Obviously staff should not be furloughed.

I'm absolutely lost with this whole thing, like. Just read The Athletic's latest report and I can barely understand what the stumbling blocks are to parity. One thing that's easily extracted, however, is that Mike Ashley's a cunt and doesn't appear to be helping anyone.

I'm guessing 80% by the government and 20% from Liverpool to top off the rest.

We all knew footballers were overpaid but this just shows how messed up and greedy people involved in football are. Every club in the premiership who have furloughed staff should be disgraced.

I'm not paying a massive amount of attention tbh but am I right thinking clubs have kept players on at existing contract rates, one of their biggest expenses, and thrown the non playing staff costs up be mostly picked up by the gov? That right?

Have the government completely fucked this scheme up then cause that sounds ridiculous.

If you are going to roll out a scheme like this quickly- and it's what everyone was clamouring for- then you have to accept that some organisations will take the piss and take advantage. It's something you just have to bear, there no time or capacity to vet every employer. There will be a load of fraud going on no doubt as with any time the government announce new schemes.

Dat benefit of the doubt again.

So, what rules would you put in place which would exclude an employer being able to access the scheme?

Don't get me wrong, PL clubs using this mechanism is completely wrong but I don't see this as a failing of the government. Would it be better that clubs simply laid off their non-playing staff? You know for sure what Ashley would have done faced with that choice.
