Positive Optimism - Saudi Takeover Edition

Recommended Posts

TBF Newcastle United have always been like a fox in a hen house where the EPL is concerned anyway, nee fucka likes us.

We're probably one of the least disliked of the clubs that have been in the PL the most

Can you buy cans of champagne

Definitely. Here's a company selling it.

http://www.andre-champagne.com/

(Although technically I think it might be sparkling wine, despite the URL)

You can't call is champagne unless it's made in the champagne region and it follows the correct process of which part is the bottling process and turning the bottles etc.

Fully aware of this, but they literally call it champagne on their site. Repeatedly. But hence why I referred to it as sparkling wine.

Anyway, if this goes through I'll drink anything. Even the thus-far untouched bottle of 70% ABV "Mount Etna Fire Water"we brought back from, well, Mount Etna, which we've so far been unable to face is looking in jeopardy.

Andre is the scourge of "free toast at midnight" New Year's Eve bar promotions and "unlimited mimosa" brunches. It's also as likely to give you diabetes as get you drunk.

We probably were for a season at most under Keegan but fans of other teams still didn't like us, remember the fiasco over the Stevenage FA cup tie and how much the other fans gloated after our relegations

This latest bit of 'fake news' has certainly caused a lot of concern and upset on this forum.

The inevitable approval of the takeover is not far away now, and the more "rubbish" that is invented and quoted as fact by reporters, the more certain I remain of approval happening . . and SOON.

From the main thread

Manorpark

Thankyou !!!

C A L M . . . everyone.

Well, if my frequent statements on the 'other thread' are to prove correct, then today should be "the day".

As I see it, there is now no LOGICAL reason for the Premier League to withhold approval any longer.

TODAY IS APPROVAL DAY !!!

Surely the PL will take some time to digest the WTO's report?

They have had it for a month via Qatar. I think they will have been pressing via PIF for the full closure of BeoutQ and access to the Saudi justice system to any future piracy cases. Saudi movement here seals the deal; in their statement the Saudis have committed to conform to IP laws and protocol. It is not hard to imagine that as part of the ODT PIF agree to support the fight against piracy and to use their power to ensure compliance in KSA.

The PL will not want to be tied up with this forever, there must be a deadline of sorts at some stage. Also can anyone really see the Saudis committing to proper long term reform (piracy wise) if the deal is rejected?

I can't see them committing to what is essentially a huge cultural media reform, even if the takeover is approved. If anybody's bidding against beIN for the MENA rights, it's much more likely to be a pan-Arab broadcaster, not based in KSA, but with their support obviously.

KSA will be broadcasting free to the rest of the world minutes after any rejection.

It really would make sense just to get them onside tbh, and hopefully that is what will happen. Don't really see any better solution for the PL.
