Never a good idea to put any store on him for a run of games, but was good to see him come through almost the full game unscathed, and a trademark poacher's goal.

Pay as you play/fit and definitely worth keeping.

Those type of contracts just don’t exist at the top level.

You might be be able to get a little bit of wage differential based on fitness, but I’m not sure Wilson, or any other PL-level player would sign that, given they’d nearly always have other options.

If it's £1,000 per week then definitely sign him up.

If it's £100,000pw then no thanks.

Somewhere between those extremes there'll be a point where it ceases to be worth it. Just depends on how much really.

If next season we're going into things with 1. elite first chose (Isak), 2. talented young gun (Osula), 3. wise old head (Wilson) as our striking options that's decent. Puts off having to buy another striker for another year so we can invest in other areas.

Only way I’d give him in a new deal is if it’s one year and on like £60k a week max.

Then it’s down to him. Does he move and get a better longer deal elsewhere, or if we’re in Europe, take the one year deal and likely his last ever chance to play European football.

The sad thing on this whole debate is that we’d all happily have a fit Callum Wilson as backup to Isak and Osula just behind - well at least for one more season anyways.

I can see us taking the risk again next season and and giving him one more year as there’s other priorities in the squad

50K plus 50k for 70 minutes, 30k per goal.

In an ideal world we wouldn't need to keep him but with the financial restrictions it probably makes sense.

Keep him and he and Osula can share backup duties - we will probably have some European games to contend with next season.

If he leaves, you probably need to sign somebody else to be backup. As we know, that costs money and probably stops us strengthening elsewhere. Osula is getting there but he's still very raw.

Obviously the enormous gamble is his fitness but if you can have him available for 15-20 games (across all competitions) it's still cheaper than having to buy somebody else.

He'll be flying tonight, only been injured 268 of the last 359 days. A meer 41 games missed since Feb 11th 2024.

Pay as you play, or £10k/week and £20k a goal and he's worth keeping.

Not worth paying a full contract for someone who won't play 15 games next season.

I mean he scored but he didn't look like he had anything in the tank today at all. Could barely jog.

We all have a nice idea in our mind of what Wilson was or could have been, but he's not getting (back) to those levels again man.

Unless he moves to Forest.

Pay as you play contracts generally don't exist at the top level so I don't know why people keep mentioning it.

We're at the second stage of the Callum Wilson cycle. He's scored a goal and people are now contemplating a new contract.

Third stage will be him getting a new contract and getting injured.

You make it sound like he was a complete waste of space which is nonsense. He’s been out for months, what were you expecting plus he scored. He hasn’t proved he can stay fit but if he can he’ll play a major role from now til the end of the season. His goal yesterday was a classic poachers goal which we’ll need and he’s a great target man.

He also assisted the assist for the first goal.

Did really well in the lead up to the first goal too. He was solid.

Yeah I thought so too, his availability gives us so many more options and if he stays fit I’m pretty confident he can help us get champions league.

I think he has a part to play between now and the end of the season. But I don’t see the sense keeping him beyond that. He isn’t staying fit for any meaningful amount of time and can’t be relied upon.

No idea who is on our radar for RW. But someone who can play there and cover up front better than Gordon can. Would be worth signing.

Got to get a bit creative with who we sign with the PSR restrictions. Put Wilson’s wages towards are more versatile forward player who can play across the front 3.

I agree, Wilson’s time here is up at the end of the season but he’ll score some crucial goals between now and end of the season if he stays fit . A player like Mbuemo makes sense because even though he’d cost a whack he can cover both positions so it’s kind of a 2 for 1. That said I’m guessing Mitchel probably has a cheaper version on the continent.
