The six clubs involved in proposals to form a European Super League have today acknowledged once again that their actions were a mistake, and have reconfirmed their commitment to the Premier League and the future of the English game.

They have wholeheartedly apologised to their fans, fellow clubs, the Premier League and The FA.

As a gesture of goodwill, the clubs have collectively agreed to make a contribution of £22million, which will go towards the good of the game, including new investment in support for fans, grassroots football and community programmes.

Furthermore, the clubs have agreed to support rule changes so that any similar actions in the future would lead to a 30-point deduction.

Each of the six clubs, in that event, would also be subject to an additional £25million fine.

The Premier League and The FA have worked closely together throughout this process and this agreement brings both investigations into the matter to a conclusion.

The 30 point deduction if they sign up to something like this again interests me, because the original threat was expulsion from the premier league. So have they just negotiated themselves into a position where they can be in both leagues? £20m and 30 points would be fuck all compared to the upside.

Definitely reads that way.

The same six teams that had a say in appointing Masters, as well as vetoing alternative candidates, have an equal say in the 'punishment' they collectively received for threatening to break the integrity of English football. And the statement phrases it as if it's a voluntary donation made for the greater good!

I really do hope there's a link to the takeover, from the big 6, which forces their hand because it's unbelievable. Would work a dream for the CAT case if it isn't thrown out on jurisdiction grounds after Friday. At least they can get to work responding that now!

If it's for one season only, they'd take their chances as soon as it'd feel safe from a fans perspective. Could/should be 30 points (and increasing) for every season they're in a breakaway league.

What a joke. Not even the sum of one top player. It should've been in the realms of 80m to 100m per club at least. In other words they forgo one or two marquee signings. They try to change the top level of football forever and it's cost them half a Joelinton. Spineless.

Edit:

Didn't realise this was 22m collectively. I'm lost for words. Even 22m each was paltry.

All six teams should be demoted to league one and their places filled with the next best chamionshit teams. Would make things more interesting for our mackem friends next season, with the added bonus we might finish in the top 10.

It’s just another insult, token gesture, few pennies thrown down and let’s everyone know who’s calling the shots.

You little clubs want the money to keep rolling into the Premier League? Then you better bow to the 6 clubs running the show and be eternally grateful about it too.

Fucking perverse that the upshot of this is these cunt clubs will throw money at new signings to appease their overseas customers, promise more inclusion in decision making to appease the legacy fans and Arsenal might get a fucking takeover out of it.

Amazing.

Wonder if Sky etc. will all be totally outraged by this and calling for toughing sanctions? Maybe a tweet or two and then it’ll all be forgotten. Still can’t get my head around how this has just been waved through with none of the other 14 clubs seemingly (or publicly) outraged.

£3m each  May as well have asked them to not bother.

If we were going to go down the route of fines, £20m each would be more sensible. The £120m could then be distributed down the football league ladder to support clubs in the way they refused to 12 months ago.

Possibly the clubs that had nothing to do with it will get punished more than these clubs because they're allowed to continue to hoover up whatever they please and no doubt will be assuaged in some way. Probably no club more so than us.
