jdckelly
what are the odds its one of (or both) man utd and liverpool who leaked this to try and threaten the rest of the prem that if they don't get their way they'll leave
nufcjb
Really seems these two want to fuck off and do their own stuff. But this new proposal say they won't leave the domestic league? Hope we kick them out then. Be a great watch to see them.losing each week to the other clubs. They'd be begging to come back playing and wallopping a Steve Bruce-led side each week. EDIT: Just saw that article mentions 'up to five clubs'. Poor Spurs just want to be loved, man.

They'd be begging to come back playing and wallopping a Steve Bruce-led side each week. seems like a replacement for the champions league ie kick out the little teams and make sure they can't get back in, less a direct threat to the prem and more to uefa. The main threat to domestic football is the demand to make room in the calendar so they can play the "super league" on weekends to maximise tv revenue

Shearergol
So they want rid of the Community shield and the League cup so they have enough room in their fixture list to play in the European super league?
r0cafella
Indeed. They just want more money. That’s the only thing driving this.
nufcjb
Looking at the comments in that Sky news twitter report, a lot of fans from other clubs want rid of these 2 cunts too. Some disgusting, greedy comments from Man Utd fans in there too.
GeordieDazzler
Wouldn't this mean the scrapping of the CL to accommodate this. Potentially creating a private league for the big clubs. Removes the incentive for takeovers etc of you can't qualify for Europe. Achieve the big picture aims without needing a PL vote?
GeordieDazzler
Although they might keep a secondary European competition for the lesser teams without the risk of us crashing their party.
GeordieDazzler
Privatisation of the CL essentially?
Wullie
How long do you think it'll take Man United to clock on that they're about to finish 9th in a 12 team league?
54
How long do you think it'll take Man United to clock on that they're about to finish 9th in a 12 team league? They're about to finish 9th in a 20 team league tbh
Menace
I had this discussion with a friend the other day. That 2nd place finish Mourinho got with them will not be beaten for a long, long time.
nufcjb
Never mind the European Premier League, Mau Utd can't even be guaranteed they will finish anywhere in the top 6 this season. No relegation for the founders of this league too? So American.
wormy
How long do you think it'll take Man United to clock on that they're about to finish 9th in a 12 team league? Probably not until about three years in when they realise their revenue reflects the fact the glory hunters have scarpered. That's the only point they'll care. Dr Jinx
Such a scummy thing to be throwing toys out of pram while this pandemic is going on. As if they haven’t been making enough money as it stands
Disco
So this would replace the CL for participants but they still want to compete in the PL? Is that their plan?

TRon
They're entitled to maximise their earning potential. Of course they are. But they should be kicked out of English football so they can get on with it.

TRon
You can guarantee they will want to have their cake and eat it. Being part of an elite European super league only works if they can continue lording it in the Premier as well. Liverpool and Man U fans would get sick of the Europop league pretty quickly if they couldn't play in our league most weeks.
jdckelly
and personally I don't get the big appeal of a super league, for me the champions league is already getting stale seeing mostly the same teams in the knockout stages year after year so I certainly wouldn't pay extra money to watch a super league but hey maybe I'm weird
r0cafella
Performance only matters to these people once revenue is impacted. Such a league would be a revenue guarantee, the dice roll of finishing in the top would essentially be over.
