How can they entertain lobbying from competitor clubs for our takeover when there was no such pressure on the likes of Man City and Chelsea when theirs went through? By the letter of the rules the exclusion of old offences only applies to the period of 19th August 2004 and 5 June 2009 for an offence which would not have led to disqualification as a Director under the Rules of the League as they applied during that period. The rules allow for a director to be disqualified at any time should a disqualifying event happen or come to light. So they possibly could be applied retrospectively to Roman Abramovich for example (who took control of Chelsea in 2003) if he, as reported, has admitted in court to committing bribery. It's the fact they didn't have the courage to make any kind of decision that's got them into this shitfest. Cowering away for 4 months in silence is what had caused 90% of the anger I think. From their perspective they now don't know what to do - come out and say something and look like they've bowed to the pressure or continue to stay silent on everything and look even weaker for it. And if they had rejected it at that point they might have had legitimate grounds to do so (albeit weak given that the WTO report isn't really equivalent to a conviction of an offence by a court). Now that the WTO report has been appealed, and there is no reasonable prospect of that appeal being determined in the foreseeable future, that 'conviction' is no longer an applicable disqualifying event: F.15.5. the Disqualifying Event is a Conviction which is the subject of an appeal which has not yet been determined and in all the circumstances it would be unreasonable for the individual to be disqualified as a Director pending the determination of that appeal. It's a pickle. Yes, though think plenty would be upset, and understandibly so considering promise of getting rid of Ashley. At least a decision is a decision though. Next time someone of dubious character tries to buy a footy club, if the premier league reject them after a week or two, will they not demand to know why they weren't given a frankly endless amount of time to try and get house in order? Obviously didn't work for us and I guess the real issue was they were waiting to see if Saudi Arabia did clamp down on piracy, but in the end they banned bein after all regardless of the reasoning. Surely a more fair way of doing it would have been publicly rejecting PCP with explanation that if they come back in 12 months sorted out the piracy issue they will reconsider? I wonder whether there’s any actual legal requirement for them to apply the test consistently or to answer to anyone except the member clubs. Basically, can they do anything they want? The test is only for the PL, at least the PL have a test unlike many european leagues. PIF should just buy us regardless of PL approval, then apply to join one of those European leagues instead. The Scots would welcome us with open arms. I think PIF should buy us and see if the PL stop us from playing in their competition. We can always apply to play in the Scottish league in the meantime if they say no. English football would be a miss, but at the same time it wouldn't exactly be the worst thing either. Think I'd prefer to compete in the Scots league rather than continue to be used as bog roll to clean the arses of the established top 6. Big fan of this idea with all the public pressure now and MP letters flying, they would have some balls to expel us from league. Add to this would it not fall into a legal grey area as they have neither approved or rejected. Basically I have no fucking idea but would be great fun to watch, unfortunately I don’t think PIF are a charity and will be banking on tv income from PL. All that happen was the buyers pulled out. PL have never said it failed. So that is what we should be demanding. Asking them for the results for theor stupid test. The PL could suspend us from playing matches until the director/s resign, they couldn't actually expel us. But to do that the PL actually has to issue a decision disqualifying the director/s first.
