I think we've seen at most clubs, whilst the manager firing/hiring should be under the authority of the Sporting Director, it often ends up being a call made above their head. For better or worse. If the Saudi's want to sack Howe, he will be gone.

Yep.

There isn't super delegation either. Some minority shareholders at other clubs are decision makers because majority owners have empowered them. Previously Daniel Levy, Steve Parish at Palace etc.

But Hopkinson isn't the supreme shot caller at our club. Zero chance. He's even more of a Capo than an Underboss (too much Sopranos recently). It's just our Godfather doesn't care all that much about us.

Howe is on record saying he has known Wilson for several years. That doesn't mean Wilson isn't good at his job, but it does make me wonder if Wilson would be ruthless if he needed to be when it comes to Howe.

As for his credentials, he seems to have got a bad rep at Rangers, and turned it round somewhat at Forest. Other than that I'm not sure what his pedigree is.

Have you got a link to that? This was discussed a while ago and I couldn’t find that detail.

Before that we were linked heavily with Dougie Freedman who did well for CP, Olise, Eze, Wharton etc. Wilson has done very well for Forest, Anderson, Murillo, CHO, Milenkovic etc.  There's only a handful of really big names of sporting directors and we've had two of the biggest ones. Wilson is a bit more low profile but the big names didn't really work out in any case. He's had summers where's he recruited 10-12 players and cleared out the decks so absolutely has the right experience for what we need this summer

Agreed. Plus he’s got pedigree of offloading players for big money. I mean they made £75m from us by selling Elanga and the goalkeeper

Not sure that's much of an edorsement mind. If anything it makes you want a bit of separation from him and the people employed at the club who he mugged off.

Just to reinforce this. Friend of a friend applied for and got shortlisted for the NUFC Chief People Officer job.

She was interviewed by club officials at first stage and then went through to the second stage which was with Hopkinson himself. She’s got huge pedigree and has done the same role for much bigger organisations. Over dinner, he told her that she was his number 1 pick for the role and, at the final stage, which was an interview with PIF, he’d be recommending her for the role.

She didn’t get it. PIF went with the bloke from Virgin Media.

He may be very credible, don’t know, but it goes to highlight how much more ‘hands on’ PIF are than many think and also how junior Hopkinson is in real terms.

You can’t have too much Sopranos. Cannot believe I am only just watching this! Not sure what was going on in my life when it first came out. Trying to drip feed it when I'm away and on nights. Nearly finished season 3.

Great insight.  Thanks for sharing.

no offence to him but I knew he didn’t have real power when he spouted that 2030 shit. That’s the PIF line and strategy - not his.  It’s the same line the old CEO had. Anyone with power would’ve said ‘that’s not happening’ and come up with something new.

If that's true, would be good to know who is actually making the big calls for PIF. I still find it hard to believe they capitulated on letting Isak go if it's true.

I always believed it was that sackless nepobaby Jamie Rueben who went cap in hand begging to Isak's house begging him to stay. Then getting chased out by Isak's pack of dobermanns.

When it comes to this I just can’t get that image of Saddam Hussain out of my head, when he reads out the name of the traitors

I sort of wish this wasn't happening this week; I'd rather Howe was fully focussing on the Brighton game rather than at a summit. They could surely concentrate on infrastructure and other stuff with Hopkinson and Wilson and leave the team inquest until the end of the season.

But then, I do get that they need a clear playing and recruitment / selling plan going into the summer, and if there's any disagreement going into that, maybe that's best flushing out now.

25 of the fuckers here for a jolly

Won't be anywhere to be seen in the summer when we are waiting if we can pay someone an extra 50 quid a week or not

Yeah, it's not ideal for preparation but it's essential things are put in place before the window opens. And if they're sacking Howe it needs to be known now.
