Does anyone know how we were doing at this exact point last year?

We just drew 1-1 at home to Watford and a few people on here wanted Howe gone and Benitez who'd literally just been sacked by Everton in as we were 100% going down with the former iirc.

Yeah, that Watford result really was where there was, what felt like, a larger chunk of the fanbase really starting to question whether he was right for the job. Especially considering Benitez had just become available and everyone knew he was the ownership groups first choice. Thank no drastic decisions were made, as after that Watford result came the win at Leeds, which is where it all turned around.

So much went against us pre January after Howe come in, be it individual errors or shite refereeing; Darlow costing us 2 goals directly v Brentford, penalty we didn't get at 0-0 at Arsenal, Clark red v Norwich, penalty given to Leicester down there at 0-0, head injury nonsense and Shelvey setting up a Liverpool goal at Anfield, pen we didn't get v Man City, failing to beat Man Utd despite thoroughly deserving to. Only Cambridge, Watford and the second half at Leicester in that run were really bad. But even still, we'd only brought in Trippier and Wood by the time that Watford game finished, sacking Howe and bringing Benitez in would've been mental. We'd clearly improved tactically under Howe and it was clear that despite the poor results, we needed the signings in to improve on the many weak links in the squad.

Alas, we beat Leeds and have been in top 4 form ever since that result.

My head hurts from how astonishingly accurate all those details you've just recalled from last season

Recounted them so many times this time last year when defending Howe to people who were questioning him/wanted him gone that they're etched into my brain.

Was just thinking the same, I have the think long and hard to recall something monumental from a previous season, like Bruno's winner against Leicester for example. My head would explode if I had toremember all them individual moments off the top of my head.

To be honest, I'm at the exact opposite. I have very little recollection and memory pre-Leeds of any incidents in games apart from Clark one against Norwich.

My memory is much stronger post-Leeds, more accurately that Everton game. Can pretty much recall what has happened to us from that game until today.

Aye, I'm the same. That Everton game was probably the most nervous I've ever been for a game. After the Burnley win proving to be a bit of a false dawn (at least in terms of results if not performances) I really felt like a failing to beat Everton would have meant relegation was nailed on. That feeling of relief when Trippier's free kick went in and killed the game was amazing. After that it was good times till the end of the season.

I was talking about this exact thing with @Ameritoonlast time we hung out. It's absolutely ridiculous the details from matches people on here can recall.

If peoples wrong opinions are being pulled up two of my recent howlers is saying on multiple occasions that Dan Burn is no better than what we had and that Chris Wood would be a good singing for us.

If anyone wants any of these top opinions on potential new signings drop me dm.

After half a season (19 games) last year, we'd only won one game, this season we've only lost one. Weirdly, we have the exact same amount of draws (8).

We had -23 goal difference at this point last season, and have +22 goal difference this year.

I do get emotional when I see that. This man has re-written the book on what's possible. Yes, there was a large overall spend, but we had to pay over the odds for some players (esp Wood), we couldn't raise funds by selling anyone, and started from the point where it looked like we were going to go down with about 20 points.

I still don't quite get it. There's very little pace in the back four or the midfield, and none of the midfield are good defenders as individuals. Half the team were there before Howe took over. But somehow we're in third place, and on the way we're playing, it's no fluke.

Page 540 is pretty good stuff, right when we'd lost to Cambridge in the cup.

Obviously was a rough time but man some of the posts are funny now, looking back
