Seems that the scale of the away from is pretty indefensible at this point. I've always stood up for Burn at LB but sounds like today a totally brainless decision was made to keep him on and we paid for it.

Absolutely hate to see us like this; it's easily the stickiest position he's been in so he's gonna have to work very hard to turn it around. History suggests he will so I'm more than happy to keep the faith at this point.

I always envisaged a ropey season and it's seemingly coming to pass.

Definitely the the most concerned I've been in his tenure here. He keeps making the same mistakes and genuinely seems to have run of ideas. Some of the players need to take a long look at themselves, mind.

The players are doing what he’s telling them.

By all accounts he’s not been able to have training sessions because of the schedule, but again, this is just an excuse, it’s not bothering other teams playing in Europe.

The wheels have come off. Some of the players don’t look bothered. There’s something more to this.

We’re playing in the Champions League and we can’t get the basics right against the likes of Brentford or West Ham. The way we’ve lost our shape and just been ragdolled in recent weeks is just not acceptable.

I love Eddie, I really do, but I love the club more.

I’m not saying I’m one of them.  More a generally question…. at what point do people start turning on Howe? Hes made some real poor choices lately. From starting 11s , formations/style of play, then sub choices.    Is it going to be soon? Is it justified or knee jerk reaction?

If these performances continue and we lose the derby for a few I reckon.

And tbh I’ll could well be thinking we need a change if we drop into the bottom 3 which is quite possible. I’m hoping there’s just a turnaround based on nothing similarly to last season (despite us being much better early last season than we are now) but that’s based on nothing whatsoever as we look rancid at present. Us potentially being in the bottom 3 in November/December after the money spent is just totally fucking unacceptable.

I never thought I'd say it, but that fully falls on Howe.

It was fucking obvious what was coming as soon as burn got booked, shouldn't have came out for the second half. Then he gets away with the pen.

Joelinton shite all season, starts again.

Trippier is struggling in his favoured position right now. Givwn the choice of Burn LB and Trips RB or Trips LB and Krafth RB, its marginal but I'd just about go with the former

When starting a game fair enough. When in the middle of a game and your 6'7" CB playing LB is on a yellow and nearly gave away a first pen against a pacey winger, you just have to act there.

Not sure where the confidence comes from that he will find a way mind. No signs of it. Our attacking play is non existent.

I gave up hope last year and he fully turned it around. I think Wissa, Tino and Hall (if he fucking plays him) transform us as a team and a squad.

No arguments there.

Howe has had 2 seasons to get full back cover and doesn't bother, he clearly still rates Burn and Trips there and they can't cut it.

A cheap full back or even signing a walker peters on a free would have made sense. We could have picked up a cheap winger from Europe that would have faired better than what we have. He has Ramsey now and won't play a 4231 to try and create more. It's side to side and lose the ball. Couple of seasons ago we rolled over some teams, we don't look capable of scraping even a draw now.

Howe could bring through and develop younger players but he won't, look at Miley not getting a sniff when team struggling.

He was in a worse position this time last year. We were just as bad (probably worse) and didn’t have the CL campaign or the cup win to fall back on.

Club has been in a bit of disarray with the Saudis losing interest. Of course Eddie should not have been in charge of the summer window but a top class DoF.  The squad isn’t good enough.

It’s bad.

We lost our best player. Didn’t strengthen the areas of greatest need bar CB enough.  We have all the issues of last season - including some people did t want to accept (I advocated for a player to rival Big Joe, a fullback) and we’ve lost our best player and lost that dimension to our game entirely.

He needs us to stand by him.

Trying to remain calm, my questions would be:

1. why did we buy a squad only not to use it?

2. Why can’t he see that burn at left back is always handing the opposition an advantage? It seems so strange as he’s so astute so I must be missing something.
3. why can’t we pass the ball to our own team?
4. where’s the intensity gone?

5. why are non-performing players never punished for their lack of form by being taken out of the side?

Pope, Botman, Trippier, Joelinton & Gordon out of the starting line-up for Ramsdale, Hall (shifting Burn to LCB), Tino, Ramsey & Barnes and we'll look a lot better imo. Perfect time to have a genuine refresh now with the 2-week break and nothing resembling good form to fall back on.

These last two away games have been terrible, no two ways about it, but in no uncertain terms should he be under any pressure, from the fans or the board, like at all, even if it was just for the simple fact that he won a trophy 6 months ago and the grace period that should allow him is longer than a single patchy run of form, in what is seeming like a transitional season in the terms of the way we play. He has more than enough enough credit in the bank, and he's allowed to make mistakes, all managers do from time to time, and even the mistakes today I can understand, Burn should have been subbed earlier, but he wasn't as Brentford had multiple set-piece opportunities and he clearly valued the physicality of Burn to help against that threat, I don't agree with it, but I can understand it. The only thing I don't understand is the subbing of Pope, but thats probably more on the medical team than Howe.

Its also still really early on in the campaign and we have won 7 of the last 11 in all comps, which isn't bad, especially in the cup games, we just need a couple of wins and we'll be back around the top 8 as its still super tight. I also personally hate the reactionary nature of hounding a manager after a small period of poor play. If he was the right man 2 months ago, he's the right man now, and I think people put too much stock on having to do well all the time, and that progress must be linear, you're allowed a bad year, especially if you've been a proven success, so personally would rather have a lower/ middling season, and keep Howe around, then sack him for some other rando like Ireola. We could finish 13th this season, and I still think he'll deserve a crack next.
