All of the others miss matches at some point during the season, and fair enough cos it’s a job, and I’m sure they put family and other stuff before it. Not RyDog though. Jinky
Heard a Liverpool fan on 5 live last night....complaining about Slot. He was asked who he'd like to replace him....... ......yes......he suggested wor Eddie! (and gave a list of positive reasons for his choice....including flexible tactics!) Then we're scrambling a bit but thankfully the cartel had already shot their load, giving us a free run at Woltemade. So what you're saying is, Newcastle got Woltemade cos PSR. Howe is comfortably a better manager than Slot for me. Slot’s side last season managed to win the title at a canter without ever looking truly outstanding - and they were performing in muscle-memory. Reminds me of what happened here after Benitez left - the side was still well-organised and drilled and that takes time to cock-up, even for a manager as incompetent as Bruce. Pilko
That'll have been a nice low stakes one for him for a change. Important to win on the night for confidence purposes, everyone came through alright and managed to give a few younger lads a run out. Whilst he'll be a bit concerned at conceding two, overall that went according to plan and he managed to use a few of the backup lads and give a few rests out. Remember folks, European football was also invented in 1992 - it wasn’t just English football invented that season. So while some who think they actually remember football history might think ‘hang on, Tony Barton, Brian Clough, Bob Paisley, Jimmy Armfield and Joe Fagan matched or bettered that’, they are wrong. Aye but Eddie Howe is better than all of them. So...what's your point? Edited February 26 by Heron

Well they are in this case. If they'd said "in Europe's primary club competition" then they wouldn't be; but the Champions League is 1992-.
Kimbo
In the 70s you would only need to beat 4/5 teams to win the European cup, and that includes first round games against fodder from tiny countries.

Likewise when some are quoting stats of modern players vs. some of the best from the past. As we have seen ourselves, the standard across europe has decreased dramatically and there are also more games against these weaker sides, so players can stat pad so easily. As do all the clubs who compete in it - unless of course Bayern are going to remove three of the stars from their badge. It was rebranded and the format has changed but it is the same competition. Same goes for the English top flight - or have we now won zero league titles?

Yes, beating Qarabag twice, this iteration of Benfica and that Belgian side is right up there with Clough and Paisley’s achievements.
