It's canny disheartening seeing the way in which people turn like, we've been shit most of the season. Hopefully we're back on track next year with one game a week and everyone's back to pretending they never went on like this again.

So as long as we avoid European football we’ll be ok?

Fair enough, doesn’t exactly scream ‘elite coach’ though.

It all depends on how serious PIF and that are about us, im not convinced that they haven't lost interest.

If they seriously want us to be competing he'll go this summer as finishing where we're likely to finish, with some of the results we've had are unacceptable. Losing twice to Sunderland wont mean anytbing to PIF mind, they'll be looking at overall, under Shepherd I think Howe would be gone tomorrow. But they'll see no Europe as a disaster and will sack him, go all out for a big name and authorise funds for the summer.

If, as I suspect, theyre just not that arsed anymore, I imagine he'll stay, we'll sell a few players, have pittance to spend and just end up around mid table again. We've been a mid table team all season so its where we deserve to finish, my major worry now is that is what we're destined to be.

As has been said, a huge rebuild is needed and if Howe is to take it on he needs to change styles and systems because we have been found out and it isn’t working. That’s my main concern, if we spend a fortune and next season is the same it sends us so far backwards so a decision has to be made. I want to keep him but can understand getting rid

Going to be tough to come back from this and the Barcelona game, think if we don't get a bit of a run towards the end of the season he might be in trouble. Not that we get a capable replacement as what top manager comes to a club hamstrung by PSR, think this is the owners first big challenge will be interesting to see what they do.

Do PIF give a shit about the derbies anyway? I'm not convinced they're that arsed.

No but they probably care about winning games which his fucking shit team are unable to do.

He's in trouble now, I think. Last few days have been a real low point, during his time here as manager. Dust needs to settle - but it's not been good enough from him and the players.

yeah, I mean I get why people are upset and this season has just been consistent anguish over and over again (not to mention the huge mitigating circumstances from the summer), but given what we've had from him in past seasons it's flummoxing that so many won't accept a bad season from him.

I think the majority will tbh.

I feel for him as the club as a whole is a mess and has been badly mismanaged from the very top. There are obviously a lot of factors that have led to the results we're seeing on the pitch.

However, I do wonder whether his tactics have become redundant in the new look Premier League for this season, where almost every team has evolved to become as athletic, intense and robust as we have been in previous seasons, but where almost every team also look like they have far more guile and control than us too.

People will say it's not on him, but a lot of the tactical issues are and it's up to him to sort that and the mentality of the players out.

I'm not in the "get rid" camp but he needs to evolve himself again as a manager. The league has changed, when we try to emulate our previous style it falls flat and teams quickly exploit the spaces we leave and strangle us. Our ridiculous fixture list hasn't helped, but we've not adapted to that adequately at all and I think the problems are more nuanced than that anyway. We don't really look "tired" to me, we just look an incoherent mess with no consistent gameplan or strategy to see games like this out.

Wouldn't be surprised if those players going to the world cup begin to slack off even more to ensure they don't get injured or too tired towards end of season. Likes of Gordon, Tonali etc.

Said it at the time but that Bruno injury away at spurs cost us far more than not getting that 3 points at the time would have. Missed him massively in these big games.

I'm still Howe in.

Three weeks to reset and come back from this. European football is still possible

Howe with European season just doesn't work. Because Howe doesn't use the youths. So you have the same first team players playing game after game and then being knackered in the league.

He's got to get some form of Europe to save his job. This season has seen far too much of the same pattern.

We are a soft, shrinking lot. Some really great lads but quite a lot of absolute fannies on the pitch when the pressure is on. Same today as it has been so many times this season.

Also, its alright saying we're hamstrung by PSR, but teams in a lot worse position than us are performing better, within those restrictions. We've recruited poorly, you can be "hamstrung by PSR" but still compete with smart recruitment.

Look at the players Sunderland have for a start, there's some decent players there that will go on to play for decent clubs.

Honestly feel like he’s a super premium Scott Parker. Parker gets teams promoted but not good enough in the PL.

Howe gets teams to Europe but can’t play twice a week.

Sunderland haven't played the most games in the top 5 European leagues.

Which clubs who have played almost the same amount of games as us including European games, are performing better?

This is a bad result on top of a bad season, that's why people are reacting.

A bad season is acceptable and there are mitigating circumstances. But I'm not sure they're all that convincing... Sunderland got promoted last season which is the mother of all mitigating circumstances.

I think Howe's problem right now is that we look shite, Sunderland did the double over us, he's at the peak of his influence over us (tactics, training, recruitment) AND we've got a nightmare summer coming up in which the squad needs a big overhaul and we'll be forced to let go of some of our best players.

A bad season is forgiveable, but do people trust him to put things right in the summer?

That's a sickening result and second half performance but I'm still very much Eddie Howe in, which I know will certainly feel like a minority especially so soon after this game

I said he starts next season for me and today doesn't change that for me and I hope the owners/CEO agree

A big summer is needed and he needs to be ruthless with moving certain players on, his loyalty to players could end up costing him

21 I think

Per the AI machine, it's 22 actually. We surpassed West Ham and Chelsea for most points dropped today. That is an unimaginable number of points. if we drop only half of those, we're in 4th.

"Newcastle United has dropped 22 points from winning positions in the Premier League so far during the 2025–26 season. This total is currently the highest of any team in the division."
