Unless we have a top 4 wage budget, top 4 training facilities and top 4 transfer budget, then expecting top 4 finishes every year is not realistic.

Of course they have a right to be unrealistic - they own the club. But it doesn't feel like a realistic or fair expectation at this stage.

Spurs and Chelsea have all of that.

This is where I stand. It's fine to aim for top 4/5 finishes, but we don't have the budget or the players to compete regularly for that.

Top 6-8 is probably more realistic, and that's why this season has been such a disappointment.  We can't have a repeat next time round, but it's going to need quite a turnaround.

I think he deserves one full season of grace given what he's achieved and how poorly run this past summer was (and a lot of that falls on ownership for not getting the right staff in place at the right time).

If we underachieve again next season that is time for difficult conversation to be had. No idea what realistic expectations are without seeing what we do in the summer though. Who knows how much money we have to spend.

You'd have to think selling Tino and Gordon would net us £150m, plus whatever else we have set aside, so it could be another £250m summer.

We'd also be selling two of our best players though, so we would need more funds to make the squad whole again.

Looks like a busy summer. Sorting out our striking options is a puzzle as well. Can't imagine we'll start next season with Wissa and Wolte as our optons again.

It's not impossible to improve on Tino and Gordon while spending less than we'd get for them. It's a big risk to take though, even with good scouting, but if good offers were to come for them, it's risks we're almost forced to take if we want to break into the infinite money glitch club.

Theoretically yes, but it wasn't impossible to improve on Isak (in the aggregate) while spending less than we got for him either. These things are hard.

I’m not sure we get over £50m for Livramento at this point. Nunes has done well for Man City and his injuries will have had an effect.

If Tonali stays I wouldn't be against Miley having next season as first choice right back.

Playing 30+ games ina position where he gets to see the full game unfold Infront of him will be really beneficial.

Yes he is the medium term midfield answer but id rather he gets a full season playing at RB compared to a mix of starts and sub appearances in the middle.

Agreed. My feeling is that we have been a pet project for a disinterested set of owners. Maybe PIF giving up on LIV golf will allow them to focus more resources (time and money) here improving facilities, etc.

I could see Miley playing on the right side in midfield in a 3-4-3, with Hall in the same role on the left.

I’m convinced people will be saying the owners are disinterested until the first game kicks of in the new stadium.

Fuck that, he's much better in midfield. Looked lost a few times on Saturday.

Totally agree. He’ll benefit from it massively in the medium term and he’s been our best RB anyway this season imho.

Hard pass from me for Miley at right back. He's not quick and can't really beat a man. If we are selling Tino I don't see why we don't just buy a first choice right back to replace him.

Would have been easier to change the manager reading that article on Howe, some very damning lines.

Is there anything in there we didn't already know?

I don’t know if this has been mentioned but if Carrick doesn’t get the manager’s job at MU I think it would be good to have him on the staff and working with Eddie as a future manager prospect.

Any thoughts?
