It feels like we’re gaining some momentum. Under the circumstances 5th would be outrageous. Imagine! :indi:

Tbf,  simply being in a position where 5th, tho hugely improbable, is still possible is outrageous in itself.

Would be orgasmic, given the circumstances.

2 teams that dumped us out of the "Group of Death" into the semi-final, I see 🤔

Not sure if its been posted before - quite enjoyed it actually

It was interesting what they picked up on - eg the way a player approached the penalty spot and put the ball down.

Odd observation, despite the disappointments of this season, our points per game (ppg) at the moment, 1.47, is the same as when we finished 5th under Robson (2003-04). Though Pardew’s 5th (2011-12) and Keegan’s 6th place finish (1994-95) were both at 1.71ppg.
If we stay at 1.47ppg or better, then Eddie’s first two full seasons would both be in our top 8 finishing positions/performances in the PL era. Also, his first full ‘half season’ (last 19 games of 2021-22) returned a ppg of 2.00; we’ve only bettered that once 2.05ppg, Keegan 1995-96.
Not too shabby, Eddie!

We finished 5th with 50 something points iirc. 60 points is 6th/7th in most seasons.

This season 6th will be 61-65 points most likely.

I just hope we can keep the defence effort up and don’t go back to the days where we just gift opponents free cheap goals like primary school students

As long as the defence is fine, we would be heading to the right direction, no matter we are 5th or 6th or even 10th.

In spite of being very keen to finish as high as possible, this is me too. More interested in performances at the moment - which have definitely turned a big corner. The results will take care of themselves.

62 points is pretty much the average for 6th in the PL era (inc Premiership, corrected to 38 games). 7th is a few points lower, 58 from memory.

Little puff piece for our end of season Australia trip. Decent watch though. The Tottenham game might end up being quite spicy depending on how this season finishes up!

How are the Spanish and the Italian media even more shameless than the English media? That's impressive.

We are absolutely fantastic when we are ahead. Literally better than Man City.

We are down there with the relegation teams when we are behind.

Find that surprising given the leads squandered against Liverpool, Forest, Luton (twice) and Man City. Milan and Chelsea in cup comps too.

it's weighted 70% to xG and 30% to actual goals, so things like the Liverpool 1-2 where those goals were pretty much their only efforts (they only registered 0.67xg in that game :anguish:) won't register as much as the might have if it were just weighted on actual goals.

Outlier games like Sheff Utd away where we generated 4.75xg and Liverpool away where they generated 6.14xG will exaggerate things too.

Out of the current crop of PL managers, where does wor Eddie rank in most likeable stakes?

Got to be near the top, right?

Wouldn't be too sure.

Going off social media (yes, I know) most other fans think he's a smug twat and eventual England manager.

Eddie's quite reserved and politic in interviews. I wouldn't say in front of the cameras he necessarily comes across as the kind of guy you'd want to hang out and eat wotsits with like De Zerbi, or go out, get bladdered and chin people with like Dyche, or go out and take some pills and rave to techno all night with like Ten Hag.

If this is what ten days of his training and coaching produces we may as well send the lads on a week long all inclusive to Ibiza next time we get a fixture gap.

Not sure what he was trying to do tonight and yet again didn't change a clearly shit performance until we went behind. He should have changed it at half time and chose to serve up more of the same below par shite.

Thankfully, we've another game quickly and on paper it's our most winnable game of the season. Needs to get it right on Saturday and win because we can't rely on the other teams to get beat again. Tonight will be forgotten quickly if we win on Saturday and that's just as well, frankly, because it was absolutely shite.
