Man City are probably very glad they lost that bidding war. He was very good last season and I am sure he will find form again but christ that Chelsea squad seems mad to me, packed full of talent and yet even on paper looks a mess. Absolute definition of less than the sum of it's parts

Potter isn’t the answer either.

With patience and time he could be but doubt he'll get that at Chelsea. The Tuchel sacking was brutal, but also feel a bit like if he wasn't their guy and they weren't going to be patient they should have just sacked him immediately rather than let him start the season. Problem is now, Potter might be the guy to do a root and branch clear out of the squad and rebuild, but unless he rebounds and has them top 4 end of season (entirely possible) does he really have the authority to do so or will the board be not sure they want this guy spending their money. Arsenal did that, stuck it out and are getting their reward now but I doubt Boehly will be the same. At a certain point Pochettino will look an attractive option and the cycle will continue.

Out of interest, given Emery only started on Thursday atleast officially, how much influence did he have today? Or do you reckon it was just a general tactical idea, with not much able to be done on the training ground?

Seems like he had a good amount of influence.

I remember being excited back when we were being linked to Emery, really rate him as a manager, similar to Eddie in that he can make a squad perform better than the sum of its parts.

Still very very glad that Emery bottled it and we ended up with wor Eddie instead :D

Chelsea are currently 14th in the xPTS table with Brighton 3rd. I can see why he took the job but taking it mid-season is a risk when I doubt he will be given the time to succeed.

Apologies if already posted. No idea if this is a snippet from a previously released podcast, or a snippet of a one due to be released soon:

It's a snippet of Jake Humphrey's podcast episode with Eddie. The full episode will be released today, if it hasn't been released already (I haven't checked yet as at work).

"The double pivot of LD & DL outnumbered DVDB" eh....?

I'm guessing Dendoncker and Luiz outnumbering Van de Beek, who was playing as the 10.  But that just seems ridiculous typing it out like that.  Character limit, or not

Fuck off England job.

The England job is a load of crap for an elite manager. It’s for people who don’t want to put the work in at the top level.

His communication skills are absolutely first class. I’ve noticed in his pressers as well that sometimes he says something, pauses for a second to process how it’s come out, then he might rephrase it in a different way to add clarity.

Just listening to the entire podcast right now, I absolutely love this man. How on earth did we not only get bought out by the richest owners but then employ the manager who is the absolute best fit in the whole world for our club?
