A club like that are always going to go down again at some point. Let’s not forget they were a broken goal line technology away from sending Aston Villa down that season as well. Lambert was awful, Wilder had one good season. Howe sustained it for 5 years while consistently on the lowest budget.
Kid Icarus
Paul Lambert is maybe the only manager out there who's as bad as Steve Bruce is at this level.

He kept a team in the Premier League for 5 seasons, a club who had never in their history been above Division 2/League 1 before he joined I don't particularly want Howe but give the bloke some credit
Dokko
£200m Howe spent to keep Bournemouth in the PL. no idea how he managed it. Fair play. For balance he brought in £70m in that time. Edited October 19, 2021 by Dokko

That's what circa £40 million season on average? I agree he made some awful buys, but overall he did a fair job. I don't think he'll be in contention so we don't need to worry about it. nbthree3
So many teams gamble promotion in the Championship and fail like Derby, Villa almost went bankrupt because of it, QPR overspent and haven't challenged until quite recently, Sheffield Wednesday were one final away. Would be happy with Howe here, he's an improvement on what we have and can have a tactics discussion to show his knowledge of the sport

I doubt their few k of fans covered the wages of all these signings. Bournemouth grew substantially as they had financial backing, not down to savvy management. They lasted longer in the prem for the same reason.

The Prophet
Hang on, so you're saying on the one hand he was only successful because he had loads of money, but on the other hand he wasted what money he had with dud buys? jackyboy
Paul Lambert looked like he could go on to be a good manager when he was at Wycombe Wanderers. Unfortunately he has gone consistently downhill since.
