If only we'd given the poor bloke more time to put his stamp on the squad.

In his defence, the players he had at his disposal had been used to playing Rafa’s style, you can’t just change that over the course of two seasons…

What kind of biscuit do you think Eddie eats when he’s rewatching our games?

I reckon he goes for a chocolate digestive me like.

Fairly sensible, durable, can be dunked but with a modern twist of that chocolate coating to one side, a nod to his evolution and attempt to move with the times.

A large seller, popular with most albeit not everyone's first choice. Some might prefer more explosive biscuits like an Orange Club or a Viscount with minty freshness. Eddie Howe is our chocolate digestive though, and we love him for it.

Gotta say this - having watched the match again last night. Absolutely breathtaking tactical display by Howe and the coaching he’s done on our players. We pressed, we engaged the ball carrier nearly every time, and every single time it was triggered the others on our team nearby had head on swivels looking to find their man, mark up engage and set traps.

Re: our midfield - Bruno was nearly flawless. Dominated. Joelinton and Willock are machines.

I hear alot of pundits thinks Gary O'Neil should get manager of the year.

I know he didnt have the best starting point, but you dont give manager of the year to someone who has lost 50% of his games and got a -19 goal difference.

O'Neil and Cooper are probably worth an honourable mention for having unfashionable sides that were supposedly stuck-on for relegation and steering them to safety, in GON's case with about a month to spare. Agree that they shouldn't win it though.

Emery doesn't merit it IMO, that Villa side should be 7th-10th anyway and it's only the contrast with Gerrard's ineptitude and underperformance that's got him on the list.

Silva probably gets in with a serious shout if they finished a few places higher, he's done a good job though - as has De Zerbi although you could argue he had the most stable platform and it's more of a continuation job rather than anything wildly different.

Arteta has done well but Howe's level of progress from last season takes him ahead seeing as he didn't secure the title from a good position - for me it's all down to whether Guardiola takes the treble or not. Then it gets a bit harder to argue against him.

We know who Pep’s manager of the season would be! :coolsmiley:

Newcastle’s secret weapon is ‘The Swarm’ – and rivals are powerless to stop it!

still so fucking bitter.

"After three years of Rafa Benitez pragmatism, where Newcastle were relentlessly drilled to learn to play without the ball and looked to hit teams with swift and direct counter attacks, Newcastle players had become accustomed to sitting deep, defending their own area, often with a back five, and looking to lure teams on to them.

That system was largely maintained by Steve Bruce in his two full seasons at St James’ Park. The two managers, despite vastly differing in popularity on Tyneside, collected precisely the same number of points over two full seasons with this method."

I feel like Thomas Frank is not mentioned enough. Brentford has the lowest wage bill and transfer spend in the league. Even Bournemouth are spending more. It's unlikely, but they can still make Europe with 1 game to go!
