Potentially a full new defence man. Can imagine Clark and Lascelles sat at home wondering what the fuck is going on. They only need look at the league table. They've got Ritchie at right back and Darlow goal! It's almost as though they haven't watched us at all this season, or noticed that Howe already made those changes. AyeDubbleYoo
They just don’t watch the likes of us actually play. I like their content but they always look bad talking about non-elite clubs.
Mazzy
Not seen any sources suggesting it but how about Oxlade Chamberlain? Liverpool are likely getting another midfielder in this month so perhaps he'll want/need to move on. I'd certainly take him on loan with an option to buy. More of a number 8 these days so could fit in the system.
Dr Jinx
Thought it would be one or the other but not both.. madness, to be honest both seem to have similar qualities which is not a bad thing. Coloccini in his pomp would be the perfect player to go alongside these two in a 3 man defence. Is there anyone in world football now with similar attributes? Vinny Green Balls
God damn. I haven't been this excited since the 1988 Crystal Light Aerobics Championship hosted by Growing Pains star Alan Thicke.
toontownman
Pretty insane we could potentially have an entirely new back four in a couple of weeks. Also a huge gamble, especially when at least half of the back four hasn't played in in PL before. We have to hit the ground running and pick up wins. Not much time to bed people in. gazza ladra
Some Twitter nonsense has us in for PSG's Abdou Diallo. Must be at ACON?
Scotty66
Mate said to me tonight, "getting pissed off with Newcastle, all I hear is them being linked with every player on all the media and TV channels" Gonna keep an eye on him as the transfer window has only been open 7 days. I guess 10+ years with no mentions in any transfer window kind of makes people forget
Armchair Pundit
A new back line would be fantastic, but I feel like Boubacar Kamara is the one we need the most.

Kid Icarus
Judging by the Reddit comments, Carlos is possibly the more exciting signing between him and Botman. A lot on there seem to think that Botman really, really struggles if he's playing in a defence that plays a high line (something I'd expect us to do in the future) and I've seen a couple of comments saying Carlos has been one of the best defenders in La Liga this season. Ketsbaia
Like: Wijnaldum (loan), Isak, Badiashile, Kamara Not as much: Ramsey (loan), Cantwell, Diego Carlos Hard to bloody keep up though

That’s pretty much my opinion as well. I prefer Carlos over Botman. Won’t mind to have both though.

Doing my best Dennis Wise scouting mission, he seems perfect for the PL, albeit very rash, but he’s a tank and seems to love going toe to toe with even players like Messi, that’s shows great self confidence, character and a real determination to win any personal battle, something Lascelles showed under Rafa but not many of our players ever seem to relish these days, Lascelles included, they back off and concede authority. Nico Schlotterbeck played 16 games for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga last season and 17 starts for Freiburg this season. Sven Botman with 12 Ligue 1 games + 3 CL this season. Replaced Gabriel (signed for Arsenal) at Lille last season and was a success. Comfort in possession and strong in aerial duels. Both of them still very young and raw but with huge potential. Diego Carlos is in his prime and is a quality central defender. 18 La Liga + 6 CL games this season. 33 La Liga + 8 CL last season. Diego Carlos would be an amazing signing. It didn’t go well. Just don’t think he has the speed/agility, anticipation, and close quarters possession to be truly effective there. He’s a decent footballer for a centre half, but I don’t see much of a future here for him in any position let alone a brand new one.
