I read an article a couple of years back saying that Spanish banks won’t force the closure of either club because their personal banking sections would just suffer mass withdrawals overnight. With Barca it’s even more tricky. They are a symbol of Catalan, where they are typically supported by Catalan separates, where as Espanyol their local rivals are typically supported by remainers.
