Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

Well yes I get that, but the release clause is there for a reason.  More often than not, offering below it is going to get laughed at (unless the player isn't actually worth the clause cost or you're City).

Don't know, just doesn't seem very productive to me.

Release clauses are there only when the players insist on them and are set as high as the club can get the player to agree too.

They are intended to prevent players from getting trapped when they want to go and the club doesn't want to sell, not to set their value.

Frankfurt are obviously a club that is happy to develop players and sell them on, it's not necessarily the case that they are going to refuse to sell below the release clause value.

A sensible post.

Yeah you don't just pay out the max value if they can be bought for considerably less.

If we had a £200m release clause for Isak but we're happy to deal at £150m, teams wouldn't just slap the extra 50 down "just to get it done" there is far more nuance and consequences to overspending for us that has to be considered.

If the lad can be got for £70-75m then we are in. But if the price climbs to the 85-90m release clause then we walk away.

The lad had one good season in Germany, the price already is inflated at £70m.

We should offer £70m+Isak for Ekitike. Then ask Liverpool where their power move is now.

Wouldn't they just buy him from Frankfurt for £100m then?  Frankfurt get £170m for Ekitike, Liverpool get Isak for £20m less than they bid and we get the shitty end of the stick?

Ok just buy Ekitike and keep Isak then.

I can’t believe someone found a flaw in the plan.

Should buy Ekitike and then just leave Isak to rot in the reserves for three years. Show everyone we won't be pushed around.

Fuckin to right, its worked a treat with £500k a week Matt Target

We're not marketing ourselves as stepping stones anymore.

I know that. But why would players want to come here if they know they'll be left to rot in the reserves if they give a hint of wanting to leave.

At that point just go to Chelsea like so many others have for a cushy 8 year contract.
