Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

I just can't picture Ekitike at Liverpool, although with Gyokeres off to Arsenal I don't think there's many other gettable forwards out there - they need to buy at least one.

Surely Sesko would be the obvious candidate with Arsenal moving for Gyokeres instead

It may not be now - but there will be a day in the not too distant future when we'll be the more dominant force in the PL

You say that but look how far we have come in four years - CL qualification twice, first cup in decades and one of the best strikers in the world.  Imagine at that rate where we'll be in the next four years.

He put a report out on espn saying Liverpool are full of shit over Ekitike,They dont fancy him etc Thinks he will sign for Toon

Aye, the article said:

"Sources have also told ESPN Newcastle are working on a deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, with a view to the forward playing alongside Isak in attack.

Liverpool have also been liked with the player however it is understood they are not convinced by the 23-year-old, with Newcastle set to up their offer to Frankfurt in the coming days."

There's another journos name on it too, but I'm assuming this bit comes from Laurens as he's the French footballer guy

Signing Sesko doesn't put the new money club in their place.

No one has really mentioned this as an option. Liverpool could just be bluffing their interest in Ekitike to put pressure on us and Isak. If Isak is for sale next summer (which is the most realistic option tbh) are Liverpool really going to splash €100m now on an unproven PL striker they'd ideally want to replace next summer? I have my doubts

I believe.

We’re refusing to sell arguably the best striker in the world to Liverpool whilst competing with them for an £80m striker to play alongside him… hasn’t even been 4 years since the takeover

I'm not convinced they want Ekitike either.

Think they're playing silly buggers through the media.

Heard an interesting take on this tonight via a WhatsApp group I’m in with a few people who work in football.

One of the comments was, “In my opinion, NUFC have leaked the Ekitike bid to draw Liverpool’s attention away from Isak”.

By that, they mean that we don’t really want / can’t afford Ekitike, we just want to take all of Isak’s suitors off the table (in this case by scaring Liverpool into making their move for Ekitike).

Interesting viewpoint, not sure if anyone has thought / shared that concept in here yet. No idea if it’s true, but it does make some sense.

By all accounts we have made at least one formal offer and held extensive discussions with the player's reps. You might leak something to the more gullible local journos as a form of misdirecrion but I can't see us going to the lengths we have with Ekitike for any reason other than we want to sign him.

Like we did with João Pedro? It's a reach imo.

Possibly not. But this whole thing has been fishy to me since it started to rumble last week. Something doesn’t add up.

I don’t know 🤷‍♂️

I guess there’s a chance that we have been feeling out the Ekitike deal in the knowledge that Liverpool want him, and that if we get him, great, but if we don’t it will draw Liverpool away from Isak. Win win.

Yeah I think it's a reach, he's a player we've tracked for a long time and we love returning for a old target.

If we try and sign him and he goes to Liverpool I'm struggling to see the win? I'm over the Mike Ashley years of celebrating keeping our players

Here is the thing though. The only way there is even a need to draw them away is if he wants to join them. Otherwise a mere middle finger will do.

If this saga and indeed this transfer window has taught me anything, it's that Ornstien is not as infallible as I once thought.

He's hasn't been corrupted and turned into a slimey, money grubbing shill like Romano, but it's a slippery slope.

Is there anybody out there we can truly trust?

Leipzig have been asking for 100m euros but seems no one has even said hello to them at that price.

This was what everyone was claiming it would take to sign Ekitike. Not buying it personally.
