Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

Recommended Posts

PIF need to become a bit more streetwise- they will not get us to number one if they don't start playing the game. Saudis bank rolled the CWC which is FIFA crown jewel. You can't tell me they haven't Infantinos ear.  They need to start applying some of that influence to change the rules so it's an even playing field. FIFA governs UEFA right?

If we are going to low ball every offer it’s going to be a long summer. I get the negotiation bit but when targets are in high demand from multiple suitors you’ve got to move quickly.

£65m for Ekitike doesn't feel like a lowball offer tbh.  I don't imagine Liverpool will end up paying much more.

If nearly all our offer are lower than the final agreed market price then we are definitely lowballing.

The Saudis have one tactic and one tactic only - throw money at something.

If there’s something stopping them from doing that - like PSR - they’re all out of ideas and the motivation disappears.

This. We are just one tile in PIFs mosaic and they've found out the hard way that they can't buy instant success so Yasir and his inner circle probably dont spend too much time worrying or thinking about us. This is where we need a good custodian, someone who has us at the forefront of their mind at every turn and juncture.

If at the start of this week it was released that Liverpool were advancing on Ekitike without all the Isak stuff no one would have batted an eyelid

And that’s what upstairs for us is probably thinking. Likely giggling at the all the nonsense after one half hearted approach start of the week.

Tbf they do have another tactic but I'm not advocating for it.

They have already thrown money at Infantino time to start flexing that influence. They flexed their muscle when trying to buy Newcastle by getting the UK Government involved this is no different.

I think it does..https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA

Besides its worldwide institutions, there are six confederations recognized by FIFA which oversee the game in the different continents and regions of the world.

UEFA is one of them. They will certainly have influence over them

FIFA can’t direct UEFA on its internal regs re club football

They got us to 4th 5th and a trophy so they're doing alright by me.

So, we've made an offer for Ekitike, Liverpool haven't. The rest is just noise from the various media outlets until something changes. Our past record of keeping our transfer business close to our chest, although sometimes frustrating, means we could suddenly spring something completely unexpected at any point... and I've decided to cling to that.

The cartel will continue to hold us back unless things change

And that is exactly the purpose of PSR/FFP, as we all know - until it gets challenged legally, there's not much to be done about it. It does make me wonder though if that's why the Man City stuff is taking so inordinately long, because the league are scared the final result will open the floodgates if it goes against them.

Like the rest of us, I think the FFP/PSR system is absolutely rotten to the core and was designed/tweaked as a response to anger about the Saudi takeover. It is a rigged system that benefits the six teams that have already baked in commercial advantages.

But it does exist. And I would bet you that adherence to it and refusal to fight it were both part of the agreement to allow the purchase to ultimately go through. So we have to deal with the bullshit.

We are going after the very top talent available with a decided disadvantage. We are showing - in my mind - admirable ambition and doing our best to manipulate the market. We could have signed several middling players but we seem to be trying for the very best talent and going against the very top clubs in the process. That is obviously going to make the process lengthy and challenging.

I know we are all scarred by the Ashley years but this is something completely different. We have bought significant talents and spent significant money - and after dealing with a bunch of PSR bullshit for a year+, we are spending again.

Patience sucks and the process isn't perfect but I think we have acted well so far and there's no evidence we won't continue to do so this window, even if it ends up taking longer than we hoped.

We’ve been friendzoned so hard by this lad. Made us an album of photos together, said there was no one else he felt as comfortable with and then just as we were about to ask him out he delivered the cold hard truth that he doesn’t see us like that. An absolute fucking dagger

My point -which I seem to be failing to make - is PIF have just bank rolled FIFAs pet competition - FIFA will have some influence over UEFA so it's time for PIF to get them to use that influence to change these ridiculous rules.
