Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

I know, he said that after the fact. Excellent diplomacy. I remember how long that transfer dragged on after the fact an offer was accepted. He was holding out like crazy. Again, we’ve heard that his preference is Liverpool well before an offer was made by them and we had an offer that was very close to Frankfurt’s asking price. It’s pretty clear he would come here if there aren’t other options but he’s hardly pushed for it has he? If he’d really wanted to play for us he’d have been here previously / we’d still be in for him right now in this window

It was before we were mentioned again so he had no reason to say it. Holding out like crazy or his agent got a call when our offer was accepted or even before.

Well, it probably helped create him the chance to work us for a third time, so that's a pretty good reason.

The Bruno, Tonali,Barnes, Botman deals took about a week at least from first hitting the press. Im guessing that was them hanging on for better deals but settled for us when they didn't show?

Very unlikely that Barnes was getting a better move.

I really hope none of the Saudi PIF clubs help Liverpool out this summer. Surely this mini saga wouldn't have gone unnoticed by our management.

I am also not 100% convinced Liverpool will go as high as needed for Frankfurt until the move on one of their players.

I'm not convinced by the powerplay/saga narrative. I think all of us raised eyebrows at spending 70m+ on a striker when we have Isak and only need to replace Wilson. Most people's instinctive reaction was, oh shit we're selling Isak. If we are a. constrained by PSR b. determined to keep Isak, then that bid was definitely odd.

Our priorities for this window are numerous but i would say the number 1 priority by some distance is keeping Isak. There are two ways to do this, give him more money and fend off suitors. As of July 14th, the feasible suitors list in the Premier legue were Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool. If (my assumption) we were made aware that Slot's targets to fill his 'number 1 priority' were Isak and then Ekitike, it puts our bid in a different perspective. Liverpool know we wont sell, suddenly that club is bidding for our number 2 target. Maybe we wanted to see Liverpool's hand?

I know it pure black and white specs but if you were trainig someone on the transfer market, one insight we all share is the 'domino effect' in the market and movement down the chain created by movements of the biggest spenders. If Liverpool had bid for Ekitike, then i doubt i would think this. Probably bollocks to be fair.

Have liverpool placed a bid yet?

Conflicting reports. Ekitike may be getting a taste of his own medicine with Liverpool still holding out for Isak and dragging their feet.

I haven’t read enough of the posts here to know what the general feeling is, but I’ll admit I wasn’t especially excited by the prospect of signing him.

Of course, the people making decisions at the club are far better equipped than I am to judge a player’s quality and value. Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something didn’t sit right. Maybe it was the fact he turned us down previously, or perhaps his relatively modest goal return in the Bundesliga, either way, the usual excitement I feel around a big signing just wasn’t there.

I understand the logic behind bringing in a project player who needs some polish. That’s part of the game. But I've seen several forwards who’ve left Eintracht Frankfurt in recent years that haven’t thrived after moving on.

There's been a few that have exited Eintracht Frankfurt with bags full of potential that they never unpacked.

Randal Kolo Muani put up similar numbers to Hugo Ekiktike and cost only marginally less than what is being asked for Ekitike. Luka Jovic has bounced around places without ever breaking double figures. Andre Silva had a brilliant season in Frankfurt but has steadily declined while at RB Leipzig. Sebastien Haller didn't cut the mustard in England, but I wouldn't want to ignore the personal burdens he's had to carry during his career.

Omar Marmoush managed a respectable tally for Man City, but I'll be very curious to see how he performs this season. Some Eintracht supporters suggest it’s not the man, but the method. That the players don't fit the system at their new club. Perhaps we've identified a tactical similarity between ourselves and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Some of my caution is founded upon how little margin for error we have with these top signings. We don't have the buffer that teams like Chelsea and Man Utd benefit from when signing a whopper.

It was his link up play with Isak that made me excited - Ekitike's finishing isn't anything special but he looked the perfect foil to feed Isak.

i think the bid for ekitike was to groom him as isak's successor for next year.

if we sold isak next season for £100m+, clubs would add another £20m to prices they put on their strikers as they'd know we ere desperate and loaded.

I reckon you are correct, Kane must be leaving next season.
