Just think they need to include Howe in the selection process for the DOF role, clearly some kind of old pals thing went on with Eales and Mitchell. Like if they genuinely think Isak is a possibility, why sign a big money striker this summer? Better off holding out till next summer, where even if Isak is a non-starter there’s other options potentially available. Not like clubs are queuing up to sign Etitike for his release clause and he’s a must buy or regret forever transfer.
Sibierski
I’m happy to give Mitchell benefit of doubt about Isak contract. Guy had 4 years left at that point, we just had a previous summer where PSR fucked us and we wanted to spend big on Guehi. No guarantee of how season would go, so a big new contract whilst making a big signing could end up needing to sell this summer if things didn’t go well. Probably saw the Joelinton situation and felt its best to wait a season, like 3 years left on a deal is still long. And if anything, it’s helped Isak hand to get an even better deal then if he signed one 12 months ago.

I do see that but on the other hand you have a wold talent striker that you will never likely be able to adequately like for like replace, even if the new contract doesn't offer a huge amount more reassurance against huge bids coming in, getting him on the biggest wage we can afford shows we value him. When contract was offered and pulled away and he doesn't see a wage spike it sends a big message. I can see Staverley being over enthusiastic and not thinking enough about the PSR implications but I feel if there is a player we should be stretching our wage structure for it's isak. I guess it is plausible that we can't possibly accomodate his wage demands at the time.
FLUMPO235
I would like to see some PIF influenced Saudi clubs make big offers for Liverpool players and talk of massive contracts with their players. Then string it all along until the window shuts. Totally unsettle the cunts, their players and have them out looking for replacement players they won’t be able to sign. maybe pay ramano £10m to tweet players all hate living in Liverpool and looking for moves. Interesting if Eintracht would take the lower offer or we'd get an Owen situation and they only accept ours? Would be a bit more at ease with it this time due to us tracking Ekitike for a few years and him saying he'd have joined first time around but for PSG, rather than it just being a Shepherd-ego play. It’s more an accumulation of trying for him over three windows and we lost out despite bids being accepted by Reims and a very good offer to Frankfurt. He’s always been looking for a better option. There’s a difference between not turning down one of those clubs and basically holding out until one of those clubs come in for you

They do actually have to get some of these executive appts right at some point They just have to decide on what their transfer policy is tbh. When Eales brought in Mitchell it was with the idea of buying players before they became well known and for much cheaper prices. It wasn't the worst idea but it means we would be going head to head with Bournemouth and Brighton rather than Man U and Chelsea. Howe wants proven players and that's where the conflict happened. If we are going to back Howe then we need to bring in a DOF who thinks the same way he does, then we have to somehow find the money to bring in more expensive players. To leave it with 3yrs to go far more sensible.

junkhead
I doubt the story about Mitchell single-handedly stopping contract negotiations.. Eddie himself said towards the end of the season that he has 3 years left on his contract and that 'the club is protected'. I'm not sure we've gone further than initial discussions with the agent, during which surely we have established that the going rate for such a top striker is 300k+. I'm not sure we're prepared to pay near double our highest earner.. or a lower (say 250k) salary with a fixed release clause might not be better for the club than the existing contract. Fortunately Isak is not about the money.. otherwise, he would've been long gone.. I doubt he'd go as far as force a move.. His focus is to become the top striker in the world, not to waste his career like Rashford, Sancho etc After the cup and the CL qualification, I think there might be a gentleman's agreement between Isak and Eddie to give us at least another season, new contract or not, and we'll review next summer. Their “power-play” ie the collective delusions of their fans base and the utter toilets at talksport, hilarious seeing all the paid gobshites making out that Ekitike was their primary target all along after spending two weeks photoshopping Isak into a Liverpool top. Wankers.

He was already our top earner 12 months ago. Contracts are there for a reason. If you want to go down the gentleman’s agreement route then ditch your agent and put that money also in your own pot. Renewing at 4yr stage a top earner would have a massive ripple effect with the rest of the squad. Also don’t forget if indeed there’s truth in either of this he not only wanted a pay rise but a release clause leaving us powerless. Look what’s just played out in last couple of days and maybe thank Mitchell…

Tisd09
I really hope none of the Saudi PIF clubs help Liverpool out this summer. Surely this mini saga wouldn't have gone unnoticed by our management. I am also not 100% convinced Liverpool will go as high as needed for Frankfurt until the move on one of their players.

Excellent diplomacy. I remember how long that transfer dragged on after the fact an offer was accepted. He was holding out like crazy. Again, we’ve heard that his preference is Liverpool well before an offer was made by them and we had an offer that was very close to Frankfurt’s asking price. It’s pretty clear he would come here if there aren’t other options but he’s hardly pushed for it has he? If he’d really wanted to play for us he’d have been here previously / we’d still be in for him right now in this window
