They were also in a much better league position than we are currently in. Our options would increase hugely if we were 10 points better off. We have to get to the same before we can attract better players, hopefully within the next couple of years. Relegation will add a few more years to that. Why join now, when you can wait to see if we are relegated or not and then join in the summer. IF we stay up it will me immeasurably easier to get 'marquee' players in the summer. If you look back some of the people miffed at the transfer market so far were wanting us to get a DoF sorted, with elite staff brought in, even before we had a manager. They’ve probably spent just as much behind the scenes which has enabled them to be the elite club they now are, the two go hand in hand of course, off-field and getting it right on the pitch which they succeeded in doing and I’m sure we will too one day. Man City are just an example of a team who did it through spending. Just feels like we should have atleast hunted down a well renowned scouting network or something. The point is though, that despite their successes (and spending), they still have to be bankrolled by their billionaire owner. They wouldn’t survive, as you stated, without it.
