Chris Wood (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Recommended Posts

Any details on how much of his wage they will be paying? If he was on the 80-100k reported then even if Forest pay half of that during his loan period it should open the door up FFP wage wise to a signing.

Ain’t a chance in hell Ashworth and Eales would allow a player to be sold that hasn’t been approved by Howe.

Get the sense that 1) the deal was too good to turn down 2) Howe approved it on the condition that we get a replacement by window-end 3) the club may or may not have someone lined up but they’ve importantly been given the green light by the ownership to spend money on it

£15m for a fringe player on a massive wage, the wrong side of 30 and with 18 months left on their deal is far too good to turn down.

I hope he does well. Seemed like a great bloke. That transfer fee was like a millstone around his neck though. He always looked under pressure.

Yeah sounds like it was too good to turn down and unexpected so no replacement lined up.

Howe said we have a pool of players we like as far as replacements are concerned, but obviously he can't guarantee how negotiations will go for any of those options. So wouldn't say no replacements lined up. Just a matter of if we can land any of them.

The way we're led to believe Ashworth works is that there's replacements lined up for everyone just in case that ridiculous bid comes in that we can't turn down.

Where are we led to believe that from? His time at Brighton?

Yeah, it was Brighton's whole ethos under him.

Have to say I think Nickson and the recruitment team have also done an excellent job in continuing to scout and gather information on players even under Ashley when they continued to look at players we weren't likely to sign under him.

I remember reading a bit on Nickson and his team and they apparently already had Botman and I think Guimaraes on the radar under Mike Ashley.

Can't imagine he'd have given too much thought to the "what if" scenario for a ridiculous bid for Chris Wood, though.

It probably features a unicorn, father Christmas and a leprechaun.

Don't think it's a case of considering 'what if' before then looking at players.

The recruitment team are just continuously looking at prospects and gathering info on players that fit the team and what Howe is looking for in every position.

Wow that reads like he's not coming back. Is it a loan in words only? The clause must be something like, must turn up to training or something.

Obligation to buy = permanent transfer in the summer.

Wood joined the Magpies from Burnley in January 2022 and helped Eddie Howe's side to move from the relegation places last season to an eventual 11th-placed finish - scoring vital goals in matches against Southampton and Fulham.

Yup. Sounds like FFP get around rather than any clauses.

I won't pretend to understand how cash later is better than cash now for our current FFP restriction considerations, but I'm sure they know what they're doing.
