I think if Lascelles was fit we'd have lost

Don’t even go there, let’s just enjoy the win and I think on today’s performance, whoever plays, it’s a team game and we won, so again just enjoy!

Really appreciate what a good job Joelinton did of seeing out the game with the same competitiveness without getting sent off. Another combative, battling perfromance full of gusto. The legend continues.

Big shout out to Shelvey as well, who was just behind Burn for man of the match for me. Guy was everywhere pressing, winning the ball and acting as a screen on the edge of our box. Top perfromance.

He was an absolute fanny. Every time someone fell over he was blowing his whistle.

Ended up working in our favour as the play was becoming a series of set pieces which gave us a chance to reset and get our positions. Had he let it flow they would have broken through imo

Massive massive win, there’s a little daylight between us and the bottom clubs now.

As mentioned earlier, if that was earlier in season Villa would have overrun us, especially in second half.

Positives, we have Targett to come back in at LB. Let’s hope Trippier isn’t missing for long.

And midfield, all 3 played well today against a very competitive Villa midfield, we matched them everywhere.

Christ what a win. So big. Could barely contain my nerves that whole second half though.

Big Joe a man mountain as ever. Big Dan Burn more than deserving his Big MOTM and Stuff. Amazing resilience from everyone considering we had to re-group twice from full back injuries.

Every one of them should be proud of themselves. It wasn't pretty by any stretch hut you can't fault the application of any of them.

Cannot believe we won that.

Feels massive and like one of those cliché ground out results you need to survive.

Would have snapped your hand off for a draw after their disallowed goal. Second half we went from lucky to pretty solid though and even though it was nervous, really they had no chances whatsoever.

Some quick ratings from moi!

Dubravka 7 - meh had to do very little. came out when he needed to again.

Trippier 8 - you saw how much poorer we are offensively when he went off. Incredibly important player -

Burn/Schar 8

Manq 8 - Shame he had to go off

Dummett 7 - didnt look as comfy.

Krafth 7 - Did his best and was more comfortable after we went into 3 at the back. But he isnt Trippier.

Shelvey 9 - Thought he was excellent, fit and defensively great too.  Couldn't believe the amount of times he actually tracks his man and stays on his feet.

Willock 9 - Not the greatest on the ball but kept winning it time and time again.

Joelinton - 8 Not as effective with a yellow early on. Still worked so hard but lacked some shithousery since he had to be a bit careful.

Maxi 6 - Disappointing but still caused them 3 yellow cards and a couple of good chances.

Fraser - 7 works incredibly hard and has a great understanding with Trippier.

Wood 6 - Needs a goal but seems a bit crap. Works hard as always.

Thought Howe got everything spot on. We looked vulnerable after Trippier went off and it didnt take long for him to change the formation because and we nullified them after that. Luckily Targett is back for the next one. I didn't really feel nervous now and I think it showed that the players didn't either.

All the tough moments in the early goings under Howe when he was trying to change the style of play are beginning to pay off now.

Players look very comfortable and sure of what they need to be doing now and are so full of confidence. So great to see.

After the subs, as someone here put it, they smelled blood. We got a hefty chunk of luck and capitalised on it, cos they got absolutely nowhere fucking near us after that. Brilliant, brilliant stuff. Credit to the lot of em.

First half we bullied them physically and our press was really impressive. No disrespect to Wood who is serviceable but exciting to imagine a more physically able striker leading the line in that system.

Second half we got pretty lucky but no surprises with that makeshift defence. To hold on to the win shows a huge change in attitude and application from December.

Kraft looked fine when he came on. Obviously a massive downgrade, but he did a decent job and made some crucial challenges. Hopefully he's another player who will benefit from not being managed by a fucking fraud.

He was very solid. Always plays with a ton of competitiveness, which can go against him sometimes as he goes charging in a bit too much, but was good today. Glad for him, as it wasn't an easy situation to come into having to make up for Trippier having to go off.
