Forest bought a whole new squad when they came up.

I think Leeds finish above them tbh - that’s why I think two.  You’d need at least two PL sides to .

Two seasons is a long time in football - and last year’s promoted sides had the most disastrous season I can recall in the decades I’ve watched football.  All three were light years behind the worst PL sides - the gap was absolutely massive.

Don’t get me wrong- you could be right; but the gap has increased significantly the last couple of years.

Last years teams didn’t buy - already Leeds have made two supposedly good signings and Sunderland have sold two and bought one so are reshaping their squad. Leeds apparently have around £100m to spend and with the Bellingham, Brighton sale (can’t remember his name), new shirt deal and money apparently Sunderland’s owner is giving them they could have around that as well (they’ve just spend £35m on a new attacking midfielder though) so I think this year is vastly different to last. Burnley need to think long and hard as they may have finished so many points above Sunderland but Sunderland moved down a few gears quite a few games when it was clear they were finishing in the playoffs regardless. IMO this is why I believe Burnley will sell Trafford- to get the money to pump back into the squad.

How much did Ipswich spend last summer ?

These clowns can spend whatever they like, are the players they are signing any good?

If they were any good... would they be signing for Sunderland?

Have they one player that you can hang your hat on being a PL standard player?

Which ones do you think will finish below them?  Maybe Brentford fall apart without Frank?  I’m struggling to name two sides likely to collapse

I think it could be a bit more interesting at the bottom this year. Admittedly it's hard to tell at this stage in the transfer window, but with that caveat in mind:

Wolves looked dogshit for a long part of last season and have already sold their best player. The board and fans seem to be at war with each other and it's not a happy camp.

West Ham have been on a downward curve since winning the European competition and could do with a refresh.

Brentford have lost their manager, it is widely expected that they will lose their two best forward players and Arsenal are already sniffing around their best midfielder. They will have to get it right woth the replacements and if they don't they will be in bother.

On the other hand Man Utd won't have Europe to contend with this season so will be able to focus on survival.

Mainly though, the promoted teams this year will be better than last year. There's no way any of the 3 will be as bad as Leicester were when we played them, not a chance. And Leicester didn't even finish bottom!!

I still think these and Burnley will go back down, and hopefully Leeds as well. But it's not the foregone conclusion a lot of people are telling themselves it will be. For the mackems there's a lot resting on the first 5 games imo. They need to hit the ground running so making signings early in the window is a smart move.

With the squad they have, they genuinely need a good 6-7 players to go straight in to the starting 11, and that's being generous. Even then, those new players have to really hit the ground running.

Of course things could click with the right recruitment and good coaching, but they were so far off Leeds and Burnley last season, I just think it'll be an almighty task for them to stay up, irrespective of them making massive waves in the footballing world.

Have the people on here who fancy them to stay up really factored in that they were fourth in a very poor league last season, 24 points off automatic promotion, looked very unconvincing in the play off games and had the fans shouting for the manager's head even after they'd reached the playoffs ?

Additionally they've lost one of their most important (albeit very limited) players and the only one I saw who looked like he truly had PL potential (Watson).

Similar levels of optimism applied to ourselves will have us nailed on to win the Champions League.

I think it’s 50/50 whether they stay up they won’t be as outmatched as some think and I think their recruitment is smart, think Mayenda will be a handful and the new lad has pace and physicality.

Think Wolves and Brentford could join promoted sides in peril this season.

Nowhere near 50/50.

Their squad is poor. Just taking the play offs for example, in all 3 games they conceded chances that the other team didn’t take, and took their few chances. When they come across Premier League teams, those chances are not going to be missed. The domination they let the other team have with the ball is going to open up even more chances. The player who dragged them over the line in the semi-final scored an own goal, and gave away a penalty the last time he played against Premier League opposition. The guy who got them over the line in the final had already signed for Brighton.

For them to stay up, it will take a Nottingham Forest like season run of over performing on XG for, and XG against.

The only real Premier League team you could say that have a chance of going down is Wolves because they have lost their main man and don’t look like having the money to replace him. West Ham maybe shit, but they have the experience to know how to win shit mundane to see them to safety. There are question marks over Brentford with them losing their manager and best players, but they will no doubt already have a book of players who they can buy to bring in and replace them. By all means the manager they have now was brought in with taking the managers roles at some point in anyway, and if he doesn’t work out, no doubt they’ll move quickly to replace him with someone who will.

On the face of it you could say that Everton having their players another year older would also put them into trouble, especially as some of them have already left the club.

At the end of the day, how many teams do you think will drop down to that level where they are in a relegation battle? 1, maybe 2? Are Sunderland then in a better position to overtake them as well as Leeds, and Burnley?

The mackems will finish rock bottom.

£50m spent already and all they've done is sign a player they already had and replaced their best player. They'd need to spend quadruple that just to have a fighting chance.

I do think them being so far behind Leeds and Burnley is a bit of a red herring mind , they literally threw the last 6 games of the season once they had the playoffs secured, I don't think they will be anywhere near as bad as any of the promoted clubs last season either . That being said they will almost certainly finish in the bottom 6 but could still scrape enough points to stay up.

Certainly not with the players they've got. Look at their line-ups for last season - they aren't PL quality, and team spirit will only take you so far

Currently they will be struggling to get near Derby's record. The three teams last year were a lot better than the current Sunderland team. Did you or others thinking they may be ok, actually watch them last season? Not one of their current players is premier league standard. Unless they sign a number of the level required, then they will be back in the championship this time next year

Hasn't played much football in the past couple season so no idea if he's fallen off a cliff but on the face of it it's a decent signing. Left back that can play CB.

How will the groomers square this with Dennis Cirkin being better than Lewis Hall when he won't even be the best LB at the mackems?

They're still going straight back down though.

He’s on a free transfer.
