Whitley mag
You could argue they’ve signed a young promising midfielder and right sided forward for 50 million and they both would have made sense for us to lower age of our squad and provide more competition. The latest guy played 50 plus times last year and made Belgium’s team of the year. Find it hard to criticise anything they’re doing transfer wise at the minute especially when compared to us, who in comparison are targeting over priced PL players where anyone who watches match of the day each week could tell you all about. Every chance with this approach they’ll propel themselves into the next Brentford and Brighton, think few on here might be unpleasantly surprised next year. Chicken Dancer
The Poundland Brighton. Let’s not kid ourselves - they’re signing these in the hope they can flip them in 12 months time. How much more can they spend? I’d wager not a great deal without trading. The squad is pap and signing young players from a foreign league is not the approach you need when the primary objective is to finish 17th. I’d expect them to be making this kind of signing in a couple of years once they’re established. They’ll need to sign some players with some experience - certainly experience of playing top-flight football in England. They maybe have improved their side, who knows, but it’s still nowhere near enough to bring them close to even Wolves (who I’d maybe expect to struggle in 25/26). Fair play to them though, I honestly didn’t think they’d be spending much money at all. So at least they are trying.

Not having a go, but for such promising players, which other clubs were in for them? (Leeds were in for their first signing). It's a massive gamble to buy totally unproven players, when you have came up with a team where every player is of a championship standard. I'm even more convinced they will be struggling to beat Derby's top record

Mattoon
No doubt this is an exciting time for them and they're at least doing something about a squad, which let's be honest, would have finished rock bottom with some unwanted records. Will they stand a chance with a whole new first 11, maybe? But they still won't lay a glove on us, we're worlds apart. I fancy them to get off to a good start with their fixtures and a few more signings but let's see where they can get to from there and if they can do enough to finish outside the bottom 3. Ketsbaia
The amount of money put down is impressive but not so much those players, based on reports.
gbandit
The only way to stay up is to spend big, even if it incurs huge risk. Fair play to them for giving it a go but I think even if they were to make a whole first 11 of signings they’d still be huge odds on to go down
Menace
The whole "if they're any good why aren't better clubs in for them" argument is shite like Ipswich signed Delap last season and he'd start for most outside the top 6, same could be said about Huijsen and Bournemouth. I can't make a comment on their signings as I haven't watched them play personally

I can't make a comment on their signings as I haven't watched them play personally Probably not the best examples mind, as they both only signed for those clubs because they gave them a pretty decent release clause. Although slightly obscure foreign signings are probably a bit different, granted.
Menace
I'm pretty sure we weren't in direct competition with most of our signings and theyve all turned out class. It's a lazy argument.

I can't make a comment on their signings as I haven't watched them play personally At the time Delap after being built up whilst getting some games at City, had then been on loan at several clubs and done very poorly in that time. It was obvious at the time why better clubs were not interested, as nobody was prepared to take the chance. Hujsen had been on loan at Roma and played 13 minutes times. So the argument isn't shite as major clubs have scouts all over the world watching for young talent. The two players they have just signed have played a number of games at first team level, so again I state, if they were so highly rated, they wouldn't have been signing for Sunderland this week. Entitled to your opinion though obviously Edited July 2, 2025 by et tu brute
Loki679
If they'd done nowt they were nailed on to go straight back down. They're having a go and giving themselves a chance at least. Their signings are gambles to a certain extent but they'll surely improve them and it's better to roll the dice and see what happens than just accept a shit season and a few years of marrachewt payments. Geordie Ahmed
No idea if the players they've signed are any good but they are at least giving it a go If they did nowt they were absolutely guaranteed to go down whereas by being active they are giving themselves a chance It's early days but on paper the business they've done closes the gap to Burnley and Leeds, get a few more and they could close the gap to the likes of West Ham/Wolves etc Assuming they've put in wage clauses in the event they do go down then this approach makes sense and no real risk attached to it Obviously on the other hand some of them are getting carried away and thinking they'll easily finish top half, will take a lot more transfers to even have a chance to do that
