Didn't see the Chelsea game (great result as I said yesterday, looking at the player ratings their goal keeper was man of the match) or highlights yet, but everytime I have seen them they have looked bang average. Man U and Burnley comfortably beat them, and nearly half of their goals have came through howlers from opposition goalkeepers and a calamity of an own goal. Add to that two absolute sitters missed by Woods and Watkins which give them 4 points. That's not being biased that is factual happenings.

It might bruise ego's on either side of the fence, but it helps to rebuild the perception of how passionate the North East is about the game and might turn heads of prospective players and sponsors in the future. We can do all of that ourselves. Don't need the mackems for any of that. When outsiders think about football in the North East they only think about us anyway. If anything, Sunderland have done more harm to the perception of football in the North East, and will probably continue to do so, despite this purple patch they are having. It's best if they just disappeared back into the lower leagues, never to be heard from again.

The whole last time they finished above us crack hit me; 2015-16 when we were relegated and they finished in the glorious position of 17th. Not sure I would be celebrating that too much (beyond avoiding the drop, temporarily, I guess). Their real focus should be on overtaking Middlesbrough whose average league finishing position, since 1992-93, is 22nd. Sunderland are breathing down their necks with an average of 25th best team in the English leagues (just slightly worse than West Brom). We are at the mediocre, but relatively dizzying, heights of 11th since the Premier League era. Though that does include finishing no lower than 23rd and 14 top ten finishes. Boro have only had two top ten finishes but Sunderland are at least in second place on that metric with 3.

We’ve also missed our fair share of sitters too mind, and had a keeper howler that gave Villa their goal v us. The luck in the games hasn’t just been one way. I can't remember sitters being missed (Chelsea aside as not seen any of the game) from a couple of yards out like the Woods or Watkins chances. Nearly half of your goals have come from goalkeeper errors and a calamity own goal. That's just factual. Tiresias
They're good, the form will drop but they're well on their way to an outstanding season. Good for them. We'll likely find form and go on an impressive run as we tend to and climb the table but it is shocking where we are at. They probably have had some luck but it's not like they've been garbage. Meh, honestly I pretty much devote all my football hate energy at Liverpool these days

Meh, honestly I pretty much devote all my football hate energy at Liverpool these days There's 6 points between 3rd and 15th, it's been a mad start to the season with some eyebrow raising results, we're hardly off the pace we just had a slow start due to he who shall not be named. I don't think its shocking that we're just 5 points off champions league places in October given the circumstances, we'll be fine and it won't be long until the league starts to take shape with us where we should be. Had a chuckle at people my age (43) on social media claiming they are back where they belong, a quick google shows they've had 17 top flight seasons in those years, 6 of which resulting in relegation. Abacus
Sunderland have had a much better start than we or probably they expected. You'd expect them to have much rougher patches this season but they already have maybe half of the points needed to stay up, so fair enough, you can only do what you can with the fixtures you have. It would take an epic collapse from here, also helped by how terrible both Wolves and West Ham have been. It's going to take a lot for those two to recover. Optimistic Nut
Only thing they need to look at is it's only 6 points still between top 4 and bottom 6. Nuno could easily turn West Ham around given a transfer window and Forest are better than they're showing. If they keep nicking wins here and there they'll be fine. One run of 5-6 losses and they're back in it.
KennyUtd
They've had an incredible start like. All mackems I know were convinced they'd go down and are over the moon. Rightly by the way. But they're Sunderland man. An almighty implosion is never far away. As soon as they lose a few, and they will, we'll see the true Sunderland. Looking forward to it. Groundhog63
I know it's heresy but I'm cool with the inbreds' early success. It's actually good for football. Notwithstanding my, previously, stated opinion that the 3 promoted teams should stay up, for the good of the game etc etc them beating Chelsea is canny. Fuck the cartel.
