Today just summed up their season. In a game that had zero quality and where they never looked like scoring, they get a goal like that. It's every few weeks we see it. If it keeps going to May then absolutely fair play but it's an absolutely freak season. They're not better than Leeds or Burnley yet pointswise they're doing ridiculously.

They're solid and don't concede a lot of good chances, that's enough to get you points in this league if you carry a bit luck at the other end too.

You need to have expected goals to concede next to that for any context (for which there is none for such stats, get into the sea).

I mean you're right, but you weren't much better. Take away the derby element and it was a poorly contested game all round, there was no danger of either team winning it without that freak goal.

But that wouldn't have mattered, there are too many meek players in the team who don't seem to have much drive to push on atm.

 

I'm highly critical of Howe tonight, but I don't believe the players were just following a gameplay rigidly. 

 

Too many have just relied on getting a ball to isak last few seasons, and now that isn't an option we are just stuck passing side to side
