I think they’ve bought reasonably well.

I've never said their players are shit, tbf. They're extremely well organised. I just don't ever see what style of football they're playing, but that's also off a small sample of games I've seen.

Their coaching staff are doing a very good job, clearly, but I bet le Bris is peddled before Christmas.

Let’s hope so, it would mean they’ve fell off a cliff.

I don't think their players are individually great, but they seem to have bought players to suit the system they are playing. Not sure how much input Le Bris has on incoming transfers, but it's worked out remarkably well for him if their DOF is buying players over his head.

Disclaimer: I have no idea if they even have a DOF btw, for all I know they might have a mackem Lee Charnley doing all the admin stuff.

Low block, lot of effort off the ball, soak up the pressure and counter, and use a striker up front who can hold it up with runners off him.

It’s similar to Forest under Nuno. It’s working well so far.

And here's why I don't get why our fans are drooling over your recruitment saying we should have went for them (keeper aside). Elanga would be incredible in that Sunderland setup going by the Forest model and his Forest numbers will likely piss on whoever plays on the wings for Sunderland. Far easier to scout a £10-25m player to play your way than someone for similar money and expect him to try and improve a top 5 side.

I agree that the signings we have made won’t really get into your team week in, week out - bar the keeper. Maybe a couple of the defenders, Xhaka & Brobbey would be bench players for you.

The main thing is though your recruitment has been really poor from the summer. Thiaw aside I don’t think any new signings have done well for you - Wissa’s been injured I suppose but the rest look poor from what I’ve seen.

People shouldn't be so presumptuous. Which of their players would start for us? Should we go for le Bris?

Hopefully someone in France comes along and he fucks off sharpish. Annoyingly competent so far

Things change very quickly for managers on Wearside.

A lot of them wanted rid of him before, during and after their surprise play off success. Unsurprisingly that's no longer the case, with a lot of positive feeling around the place, but he's only ever going to be a few bad results away from the pitch forks being back out for him.

It is difficult to pin point exactly what he has done for them, as their intended style of play is so difficult to grasp. But as the earlier post said they do work hard at it, whatever it is. Is it sustainable? Probably not.

Key for the mackems will be what they do next season. Remember Sheff United coming up a few seasons ago and finishing in the top half? (much to everyone's surprise?) They crashed and burned the following season.

We're in a bit of a limbo where the top targets will still choose the Sky 6, and the group of players underneath, clubs know we have money and will rinse us.

As I have said to some Sunderland friends its been a great welcome surprise and I am sure we would be had we been in their shoes.

Better players will likely be poached so it will be how they hold the side together while trying to swap out core members. If they can continue to improve they could "do a forest"

Their set up relies a lot on discipline and working their arses off closing down the opposition. Once the promotion bounce has worn off and we are into a second season of grind, that's when we'll find out how easy it is to repeat. I think they'll struggle unless they can add some real quality in one or two areas. Their manager does seem quite focused on what he wants though.

Xhaka would've been a great signing for us imo. A profile we needed. Experienced. A passer. But we don't seem interested in doing that.

I like Mukiele but he's older than what we need although the price was good. Seen he went to Leipzig back in the day. That's the model we should have largely. The best 18-21 pushing 23 we can get.

Sheff Utd amazingly did it with pretty much the same players that came up from league 1 and the Championship with them mind, so was always going to be a ceiling.

These lot have made loads of canny signings and seemingly have enough money to go again in the summer.

Completely different situation, think these are here to stay (not necessarily top 8 again next season, but pushing to for top half certainly) for the foreseeable.
